Max, where I live in the San Joaquin Valley it's known as the bread basket of the country. The long growing season and mild temps along with heat makes it ideal for crops. They harvest lettuce t wo times out here..once in the Salinas Valley and agin in the winter down near the Mexican border. Tons of citrus, nuts, olives, potatoes and alfalfa for animal feed. When we have problems like this drought it affects the entire country and prices go up for everyone.
I wonder if I could get anywhere near that price for that dish. I got it at an estate sale where a man was selling off his deceased wifes stuff and just wanted it gone. I'm thinking I paid about 2 bucks for it. Also got a huge box of lingerie for 5 bucks and made a good bit off that.
