Cathy, by FCC regulations all network and PBS stations have to be offered over the air free of charge. All you need is an antenna. The Roku streams through your internet and is not live TV. Hulu airs shows a day later I understand but I don't have that one. I have Netflix and HBO Go. I think Netflix runs about 7-8 bucks per month and other ones are about the same. You only pay for what you want to watch unlike cable.
I know it sounds confusing...lol. But you can look up Roku on google and see what I mean.
