Hi all,
Reen, thanks for the tip on using the microwave to dry herbs. I will try it on some sage and rosemary that is growing very well right now.
I picked three small tomatoes today. They aren't doing very well so far, but with some fertilizer and plenty of water, hopefully we will have a nice crop. We were very late getting them out. We have just had a lot of weird weather this year. I do have a mess of summer squash to cook, and we had about 5 meals of asparagus. We need to redo the asparagus bed this fall. I didn't get anything else planted, and it is too late now.
Shelly, our son in Baytown, near Houston, had a lot of rain, and couldn't get to work for a while.
Susan, I know you are anxious to get started on the house. Just make sure they are insured, and that they get any necessary permits. Unfortunately there are lots of crooks out there, so don't pay them much until it is done to your satisfaction. Our daughter, Carol, decided to use some of the life insurance after her husband died to re do her kitchen. The man who was to do it had put a new roof on a few years ago, so she thought he would be a good choice. She has been without a sink and cabinets since January when he did tore it all out. Then he said it need to be rewired because there were electrical problems. Long story short, he didn't get a permit, he put up the upper cabinets, and started at the wrong end, and when he got to the corner, he cut a hole in the wall, and stuck the cabinet back into it, and it can't be opened. She had paid him $9500 . Anyway, a man who goes to my other daughter's church came out and looked at it, and he told her not to put anything in the cabinets or they would fall down and could really hurt someone. He is a home inspector in another town near her. He enlisted the help of a lawyer, and both he and the lawyer are doing it free of charge. They decided that she and her house were going to be their mission for the next few months. They have enlisted others to help. We decided that the first man knew she had the insurance money, and he was going to get as much as possible.
It is getting late, and I am determined to get to bed before 2 am.
Goodnight all, Ann
