It is all so subjective when it is left up to the primary care doc. Some will simply refer any patient who asks for a referral and some of them get their noses bent out of shape if you ask to see someone else, like you are insulting them or not trusting their medical knowledge. I had one of those once. If I asked to see a specialist, he got angry about it. I changed docs quickly. I wasn't about to take a third type of antibiotic for a cough that was caused by asthma and by then required a steroid. I'd been coughing nostop for 5 weeks while he gave me stupid antibiotics. 10 days after seeing the pulmonary specialist and getting the steroids I needed, the cough was goen. Not fair to make me suffer like that. Never again. I know when I need a specialist.
