• Shelly, I found your post to me disheartening. Had no idea my enthusiasm over life was considered RAVING aka boasting . We buried Evan's Grandma Mary the day of his play. She died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism two days after Mother's Day. Then two hours after her funeral all ten of us went to support him Iin his play, red eyes, very heavy hearts and all.

I don't feel I fit in this group well. wish you all well.

    Cathy

  • Hi everyone,

Gordon, Dan has an auction on eBay that is going really well.
    Seller : longshots-collectibles (4916 ) About longshots-collectibles

Hi to Reen, hope your doing well. Hi to Max, at least we know your both ok.

Irene, I use that same term about the sunshine, bet you might have to take pictures outside in better light.

On my way to a bridle shower..
    Cathy

  • Just a drive by....got home last night and had a great time. More later.

From Danny Simmons of the very old pottery board......"If any of you talk to Gordon, give him my e-mail in case he may want to communicate. Thanks. dan.simmons@comcast.net
    Have a good evening."

He woul love to be in touch with you.

    Cathy...be back later.

  • Shelly, Just an FYI....Max must have her computer fixed. Saw she was viewing another site. Probably like many of us not much to say.

I am off to South Dakota on Friday. Such a beautiful area.

Irene, I agree with you it is fun watching them grow. I do cringe when they try to fly for the first time. Those crash landing look painful. Makes me want to pick them up and put them on a tree limb.

    Hope everyone is well, Cathy

  • Hi to all.

Gordon pictures or a video would be nice. Do you have a Go Pro? Grandson has one and he makes so great videos. Have watched videos of pets wearing them. Interesting perspective......smiling. Probably would not work well on a cat.

    Family isdues today.

    Cathy

  • Hi everone.

Irene I tend to stay inside when it is so gloomy also. Have sin today but still cool due to the lake.. Natures airconditining. Selling Christmas All year round seems to be the thing lately. Two thrift stores I went into had small tables with seasonal items. Lol, I can only due one season at a time in my brain.

Hi to all and enjoy your day.
    Cathy

  • Good morning to all.

Stll living on the quiet side of life. The snow flakes and sleet of saturday only reminded me it will be another four weeks or so before even sitting outside will be possible. Let alone planting. Got a lot of the small things I wanted to accomplish done.

Evan has his last school play this week. Won't tell me what his part is going to be. He lives to surprise people. Smiling.

See everyone is plugging along also. Anyone know how Reen is doing? Guess she will be home sometime later this week.

    Cathy

  • Hi Ann, sounds like good news for you. Know what you mean about men dying sooner than us. Have that here in the building. Several since I moved here four years ago.

Still cold and foggy here. Going on an adventure to another town to their two building thrift store, lunch, and then the farmers market. Bit early for most veggies but nice to see what they might have in homemade items. Only about thirty minutes from here.

Hope Reen's back surgery works well for her. Recovery takes awhile .

    Off to enjoy some coffee.

  • Shelly, I am not close to the wildfire. It is up above montana on Alberta Canada. I am well over a thousand miles away. However the smoke is on the atmosphere and going where the winds blow. Can't see it but at times when we don't have a wind you can smell it.

Have some sewing and mending to do today. Not fun but necessary.

    Cathy

  • Reen, just read your post. Will be thinking of you while you have your surgery. I sincerely hope it helps you a lot.
    Cathy

  • When I grow old i am not going to be siting around knitting. I am going two ve clicking my "life alert button" to see how many hunky firefighters show up. This was sent to me with a picture of an old lady winking.

Happy Mother's Day everyone. Mine was very nice. Lots of laughter, food and cake.

More tomorrow. Allergies are crazy with all the smoke from the wildfires in Canada. Beautiful sunsets. Sad at the loss of all the homes in that area. No have been so lucky never to have been in a natural disaster. Only close once with a tornado when I loved on texas a long time ago.

    Cathy

  • Morning Gordon, Irene and lurkers.

I emailed the webmaster and am thinking he removed them. Or I have a ghost messing with my iPad. Glad they are gone.

Gordon, where are you now? My youngest grandson will be back from his class trip to Costa Rica tomorrow. First long distance trip. At 14 he has strong interest in video photography and some still photos. See he has had his first horse back ride also. Can't wait to hear his stories. Want to show him your pictures of the gorge and some of your videos.

Irene, have you ever read books by Joseph Wambach? Did when I was younger and into crime novels. Written by the perspective of the police. If I remember they were quite vivid so know that would not sit well with me now. Same era I devoured Stephen King books.

Second yoga class today. Felt ok after the first one last week. Went to see the movie Mothers Day yesterday. It was just ok.

Webmaster, if it was you who got rid of the big frowning face. A big thank you.

    Cathy

  • Ok NO CLUE how the frowning face appeared. Let alone on both posts. Anyone know how to remove it.....or better yet how it got there?

    Cathy

  • Shelly, I said the rain happened overnight. So we were just fine. Temps were in the seventies . Must say a little drizzle in the past has never stopped me.

I could never read anything like that. To much like what I see on the news. Laughing...I need happily ever after.

Found out yesterday that at the far end of our mall they will be building an eight screen theater . How convient. Also on the grounds at the east side a 160 units, in three buildings and court yard apartments. They will be market rate. Lots of new and updated building happening all over this area. Glad it is finally happening here for a change.

Winds out of the west today. Looking forward to the warmth. Been in the thirties at night and only fifties during the day. Too cold to plant or even be outside when the winds come off the lake. Max knows all about that.

  • Had a long post but ipad locked up so lost it all. Condensed version....had a grat time. Rain came overnight so we were comfortable digging. A lot of the tailing piles are being ground up for use in cememt so a lot of beautiful specimens being lost forever. Got some of the best specimens ever with less work.

Marson, I am sorry for your loss but glad she had a long happy life. Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you. Your right, there is a lot of things to sort and make decisions on what to kepep etc. my kids have been allowed to take whatever they wanted four years ago when I moved here. No longer had storage space. The rest I gave away . Did not want something to happen to me and them getting a dumpster. Noticed lately they have been donating instead of dumping items they don't want anymore. Rather see that than throwing it out in a land fill.

Still very cold here so it will be awhile before and planting can happen. Seems to be stuck in the 50's. Only some brave daffodils blooming.

Taking it easy today. Have yoga again on Wednesday. Didn't hurt after the first time so will continue. Geared for us getting older and stiffer group not the kind where you put a leg over your head....laughing at the thought.

Cathy...passing out coffee and cookies this morning.

  • This is so funny. Tula, a dog with a gopro camera strapped on at a dog park. If the link does not work goggle Tula dog gopro. Laughed out loud at the way the dogs interacted with each other. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2016/04/05/dog-wears-go-pro-at-park/

Need a second cup this morning. Bye
    Cathy

  • Gordon, what an interesting history it has. Did not know about the WW2 pacific sweep. Or I have forgotten that also. Know I would not last more than a few days lost in any wilderness. Just not a suvivorlist , but I can still start a good fire from scratch. Laughing...I won't freeze, just starve. Friend I go gem hunting with does go into places for three weeks at a time and camps in wilderness areas. His favorite places are Montana, Wyoming and Utah. Plenty of places to get lost. Never has though.

Well all still very cold here. Going to my first yoga for seniors class. See if I can stretch these muscles out a bit. Might check out a thrift store or two on the way home. Not use to so much time on my hands. The good part is I have gotten all the little things I have neglected, some for years, taken care of and that feels good.

Time for coffe and to watch the news. Cathy

  • Forgot, Gordon I rally liked the gorge pictures you posted. Wonder how many adventurers get lost hicking in the dense woods. I have had only one helicopter ride and that was over the badlands in South Dakota.

    Cathy

  • Here is another link of pictures. Wish I had the talent to do These.

painted scenes on garage doors pictures

If the link does not appear you can goggle them. Now I do need coffee.
    Enjoy your day all.
    Cathy

  • Waving at Shelly, max, Susan, Bob , Gordon and all.

Irene, glad you enjoyed the pictures. Found out after spending an entire day with youngest grandson that he has a lot of interest in photography. Am going to see if there are classes for teens to learn techniques. He and I spent the saturday witching the Rube Doldberg national finals here in milwaukee. To hard to explain Rube Goldberg machines but high school and college engineering students have groups to build and compete these machines from almost anything they can find.

Since I am done with the thrift store unless called I signed up for a Silver Sneeker program at the local gym. Going with two others to try yoga (for old people...ha, ha), saw the size of the exercise equipment and immediately decided if I tried any of those they would need an ambulance to drag my bones home. Will stay with low impact and swimming.

Susan, not sure why I miss getting flower beds ready for summer. Would have helped if I lived closer. Never had ants in the flower beds but they always found their was into my house. Sure don't miss that. I used Taro ant killer but with having cats out side probably not a good choice since it is a sweet smelling liquid.

Well we had 80's yesterday but this morning cold and wind chill is 29. Hopefully next week the temps will even out. Have a few trees leafing out and a few with blossoms. Yeah!!

Leaving four am on Friday morning to go on a dig this weekend. We try to get to our spot by noon or one o'clock so we get extra time. Will be on the illinois side of the Ohio river. The other side is Kentucky. Very pretty area. Temps will be in the high 70's. Nice for hunting.

Well going to get moving. Need coffee this morning. BBL Cathy.

  • Sunny morning so far.

Susan, I heard bluebirds last year when we were digging in illinois but could not see it with the tree cover. We have a few "city" hummingbirds here at the apartment building. We're allowed feeders for them but not other birds. Too much clean up. Two years ago I saw an indigo bunting also. But not since.

Gordon, the pictures are cool and I have met one person who had been to the hobbit houses in holland. Interiors are very plain. I have been to yellowstone when there was a morning frost. Sparkled like diamonds when the sun hit the trees. Lovely.

Have a busy day ahead of me so off to make coffee and pry my eyes open.
    Cathy

  • Hi everyone, hope I can share this with you. Click on link. When you want to see the next photo just tap on it . So beautiful.

    Cathy

  • Just a quick drive by. Weather today was 81 . What a great change from home. Going to dig a bit more in the morning before heading home. See texas and othe state are getting hit with storms again tonight. One of the people here digging for goods has a truck with rally big de GS from baseball size hail . Quite a sight.

Tonight was all sat outside of the motel and played "my geode is bigger than yours"....like little kids. Great fun....smiling.

So glad to read that goblin is saftly back inside. Your right they are just like having kids and need to be kept safe..

I am tired and having been in 80 degree weather all day made me want to keep going until I dropped. Happy, happy, happy......more on Monday when i recoup.
    Cathy

  • Greetings and salutations.

Irene, I don't know why some people think because you have not bern seen you must be sick. I have and sure others here have had that happen. Know I have. Bathe must think we don't have other things on our plates. I only take one medication also. Had a cholesterol issue a few years back. Changed what I ate and got it lower. But I am lucky so far ... No BP problems, just the RA. What did you put in your shop?

The thrift store still has a lot of clothing left. Also a lot of miscellaneous. Books did well but knew they would at seventy percent off of a dollar twenty five. Most clothing went for sixty cents a piece and and extra ten percent off of that if you were a senior. We stopped asking anyone who looked over forty and just gave them the extra discount. Many of the workers agree that the smaller store most likely will not make it a year. Not a clue as to what the main office is planning to do in the future.

Hear some people are doing well selling on Amazon and facebook. One is selling just new items but also has a lot of storage space. Pi still see lower prices on ebay.

Just cleaning and packing today. Have the mission food pantry tomorrow then leaving for my trip.
    Cathy

  • Ahhh, I see I forgot to mention we all wear wadders (rubber boots). Think I took it for granted you might have known that. No one could withstand the cold water. Although I always wear them no matter if it is only ankle deep, some rivers in the summer are nice to soak your feet in. Easier to walk in boots because some the rocks are slippery and you just don't know what sharp things you might find.

The group I dig with are professionals, not amateur weekend hunters, and always thinking safety first. Lol, well with the exception of a new digger who thought he could wade into Lake Superior when we were in Thunder Bay, Canada. Took at least six hours for his legs to warm up. He listens to us now. Sure Max remembers just how cold that lake gets.

I will try to take some pictures so you get a better understanding of what it is like. Everyone looks out for each other.

I see some of the bulbs the manager and I planted last fall are starting to peek up out of the ground. Some look like iris but the others we were not sure what they are anymore. Can't put labels into the ground as they don't stay in place. But I love fun surprises and we can move a lot of them around later in the year of they need to be spread out. Only saw on bush so far with leaves trying to come out. Going to be a few warmer days coming so that will help.

We won't be giving anything away at the thrift store. The mission group I volunteer with will take it and redistribute to those who have nothing. Obviously just household items, furniture and clothing. Kids books etc. not sure how they are doing this week. Won't be there until tomorrow.

Going to the movies and lunch with some women in the building today. Think we're seeing big fat Greek wedding two.

    Cathy

  • Top of the morning to you all. Cold but sunny at least.

Read the board and see everyone is chugging along. Not much going on here.

Thrift store closes on the 23rd. Only two weeks to go. Half off sale last week helped but store is still full. So this week it is all 75 percent off and next 80. Saw the schedule for the other store and have opted to be on the call list instead of regular days. Way to many strong personalities and I am just not interested in the drama that is bound to happen. My time is better spent with the mission work a few days a month.

Got a call to do an impromptu geode dig in Wayland Missouri this upcoming weekend. The area is in the high 60's and sunny. Will have to wade in the river but usually it is thigh deep. The Amish family was kind enough to let us use their farm to get access to the river. Sure hope his wife will be making cinnamon rolls again. They were soooo good. Leaving Friday and back Sunday. Just a four hour drive...six for me.

    Cathy

  • Oh how I wish I could say it is hot and muggy. Think, thunk....my head hitting the table . Nooooooo we have snow again. Whine, snivel.

Enjoy your day. Off to the thrift store to work. Everything is half off now and next week seventy five percent off. Store is still full.

    Cathy..over and out for now.

  • Big sigh!!! See on the radar there is sleet and snow followed by wind and rain tonight. Anything but warmth....!

Just hanging out tonight and watching the election returns. At least this primary got more people than ever out to vote. Very high turnout.....lol...also some very low down nasty ads on TV. Glad when that ends also. Not to many robo calls this year thankfully.

Going to watch Doc Martin and another PBS show on older homes. Lol, exciting right?

    Cathy

  • Morning all,

Susan, see it is finally happening. Fingers crossed that the weather cooperates for you. Can't even consider brining the patio furniture out yet. Snow and in the twenties the pas few days. No warm insite yet.

Nothing happening here. Just voting, laundry and grocery shopping. Whoopie...lol

    Cathy

  • Hi,

Susan, you can report him to the state bar association in your state. Might make him get off his butt. Or it could expose him as a really bad person. My guess is that he has already spent your money. Know you don't want to spend the money to hire a lawyer but it might be time. Or a surprise trip to his office demanding your money or a police visit. Taking a friend to verify what happens would be a good thing. Hmmm, no secretary in his office? Sitting and waiting does not seem to be working. He might not have gotten your letter if he is away on an Easter vacation with family. Every state has a free vital records site also. You could google him that way and see any past complaints against him. Don't know if the Better Busines bureau keeps records but you could do that online also. If I sound harsh I am sorry but feel bad you have not been given what your due.

Friend who just moved from here got scammed by the movers. Said it would be 550.00 but when the got to her new location would not take the furniture off the truck for less than one thousand. Son in law paid them eight hundred and then, even though it was a Sunday, got a hold of the debit card company and explained the situation. They only gave the crooks the 550.00. At least it had a happy ending.

Wonder how long it will take to lay the driveway? The fast drying cement sounds nice. Had a tar driveway redone once and we had to wait a week and park on the street.

Irene, we have not seen possums but do have large deer that wander occasionally in the mall parking lot. They seem to know where they are going....may be a sale at Kohls? I love to watch the hawks soaring in the evenings when it is warm out. This year we have all remarked that the birds are not chirping yet. Lots of robins but no singing. I can only think it it still to cold or they came here to early this year.

Shelly, thanks for the virus warning. Still boggles the mind that people stay awake nights thinking those things up.

Hi to Max and all the lurkers.

    Cathy

  • Hi to all.

Suns out at last. Not warm but I will take it and be happy.

Gordon, in spring it takes a fairly long time for the snow and ice to melt off the beach. Will go down then and play with the metal detector.

Susan, did you ever get a lawyer to help you? I am sure not liking Mr Geoff. Sounds more like he is tap dancing around the issues. Happy to read your found them. At least you know where to put the food.

Irene, Oh the story I could write about the damage the raccoons did to my SILs parents home while they were traveling. Over ninty thousand dollars worth. At least they had good insurance but it took months to fix everything.

Need to get moving. Taking friend out for lunch and the to her doctors appointment.

  • Shelly, donations are way down as compared to other years. People seem to be holding on to thing or aking them to goodwill's. We don't have a drive through service where people unload your car for you. Now that there is a GW every few miles there is no need to bring things to us. I think our time has come. We are not near any tourist area either.

Sales are mostly clothing and practical items. Not knic knacks or decorative items anymore.

Gordon, we have has a few days where getting out and strolling is fun. This year seems to be more rain and cold wind. Just have to wait it out. My digging and rock hounding friends got me a small metal detector for a Christmas present. As soon as the ice is off the lake I can go play with my new toy.

    Cathy

  • Back from dinner. It was so good and I got leftovers also. Cold and raining here.

Gordon, sometimes life being to quiet is hard on me. I tend toget restless after a day or two. High energy is not always a good thing. Hope that will sixish a bit as I get older.

    Cath...done for the day.

  • Happy Easter to everyone. My life is so quiet at the moment I feel like I am waiting for op the other shoe to drop so to speak. Going to sons for dinner but that is about all...

Things are winding down at the thrift store and the basement is finally empty. Not everything is priced and out yet but we're working on it. Sooooo much stuff. Rumor has it that the agency is not doing that well and adoptions are way down. Probably the reason that they have given up the idea of a second store for now. Get the impression were a sinking ship. We have a lease on the smaller second store for only one year. Time will tell.

Gordon. You sure have had your share of issues lately. After reading how. Much an ice cream cone costs versus gas think I will have to buy mine at the store and get more bang for my buck.

    Cathy

  • An early good morning to everyone. I know it is trying to be spring but I sure could do without any more snow. Fingers crossed it goes north of Milwaukee. Thunderstorms and rain I can handle.

Irene, I can't seem to find much to read that holds my interest. Remember I used to read things like The Stand and a lot of other Stephen King books. Now I find them way to creepie. Considering checking out the non fiction section in the library. It seems like that is where my mind wants to go. Go figure, i loved watching Downton Abby which had, love, death, betrayal and humor. Just thought I might be able to find the dvd of Upstairs Downstairs which was on PBS a long time ago. Tried watching a series about the south but then again there is so much violence. Must be my older age and changing taste. With a but of humor, I may have to soon resort to cook books and cooking ,shows.

Taking an older friend to her M.D appointment this morning then lunch. At 86 she is sooo cool to hang out with. Has a great sense of humor. We once asked her if she wanted to join us for ice cream...it was ten thirty on a hot summer night. Her reply was "just let me get my purse". Her sixty year old daughter was not especially happy with us....so now we don't tell her daughter what we are up to. Smiling.

I am sure your right about about me having more fun things to do than sorting through donations etc. spoke to a few who have decided to retire from the thrift store and we plan on doing a breakfast get together every so often. Hard to lose friendships from the past 14 years.

Where is everyone hiding lately? I need to know when to start some seeds I collected from last year.

    Cathy

  • Happy. Belated birthday Irene, did you get cake?...smiling

Not much in signs of leaves or flowers yet. However we seem to have a snow storm gathering speed from the west. Hard to tell if we are getting a trace or enough to shovel.

Nothing interesting here. Been playing taxie driver for a few people who don't drive. Don't mind doing that as I get my errands done also.

Surprisingly several volunteers from the thrift stores have decided not to continue after the move. A few are a lot older and I think they are tired of doing it. Last day open is april 23rd. Not sure what I plan to do yet.

Hope you are all well. Cathy

  • Morning everyone,

Susan, friend rescued a dog recently but took out insurance on her. She has done this every time she gets one. Sure paid off this time. Mange, coughing and a few other curable problems from being in a cage for eight months at a kennel. They did take her out for exercise but they do not have enough volunteers to spend time a lot of time with the animals. Seems Sasha likes to chew on chair legs. They are working on curing that. One of her cats has already made friends with her. She only has two cats.

Gordon, the pelican appears to be white. Have seen only brown ones in the south but know there are white ones also. Msurprised to see one over Lake Michigan a few years ago. Mall I can think of it was on a trip or lost. Rare in my area. Sea gulls the norm. Hope they keep the flying carp out of the lake. Plenty of them In the rivers in Illinois. Plenty of you tube videos of people trying to catch them. Boney but editable I heard.

Max, should be just about the time for the snowbirds to head back north.friends in Corpus Christi texas are not coming back this year until late April. Weather has bern exceptionally good this year for them.

I agree about getting rid of daylight savings time also. No need to have it anymore. Plus it messes with my internal clock.

Grandson Evan got accepted into an international bacculaurat (IB) high school right after he chose another high school for this upcoming year. So he is switching and trying it for a year. I think he will do well. He needs more confidence in himself but that will come with age. He is only 14.

Only job today is to get a gift for a bridal shower on Saturday. Seems the heavy thunder storms will miss us and go more north. Could use the rain.

    Coffee is on, cathy

  • Nice places to visit. Hope your day is going well.

10 Perfect Places To Go In Wisconsin If You’re Feeling Adventurous

    Cathy...off to do household stuff

  • Good morning everyone.

Found out the thrift store closing will be on April 23rd. In about five weeks. The following week "they" will clean out the store. I am not going to fo the heavy work like last time. No clue what they will be doing with the left overs. Store manager not big on donating anything to the mission. Took a lot of craziness to make the donation of unsalable clothing happen four years ago. Going to let the mission people to do the negotiating

Yeah for Gordon to be on the road again. All that waiting for a thirty minute fix? Obviously you had no choice. Where are you going next.

Hi, Bob, Susan, Shelly, Max and Irene.

Off to meet my digging buddies in Rockford illinois for lunch and planning our next trip. We're trying the Golden Corral this time. Don't believe I have ever eaten at one.

    Enjoy your day.
    Cathy

  • Quick drive by......need to leave by 7:15 to help at the mission. Then glass fusion class at noon. Busy day.

What a cool idea ..fur bunnies. Friends cat Romeo would most likely snuggle up to them. He is such a lover.

Gordon, hope your doing better soon. How long do you need to be on the meds? Looks like a nice area where you are parked right now. Sincerely hope no one hassles you.

Coffe is on. Have to get moving. Cathy

  • Ok, ipad thinks the IRS can see me. The word See should be suing me.

    Cathy

  • Sooooo....I am collecting bail money. LOL, Got a call on my answering machine letting me know that the IRS is seeing me and unless I call a specific number right now the police are coming to arrest me. Wonder how many millions of people get that call yesterday?

Called a friend whose mom would fall for that to warn her. Also got it posted downstairs on the bulletin board. We have a few here who might think it was for real.

Going to be 65 again today with thunderstorms. Yeah! Catch you all later.
Cathy...what am I doing up at five am?

  • Good morning. Having trouble with the iPad it keeps locking up so I'm back to trying to dictate. I think it may be human error but don't tell anybody ha ha.

Hey Gordon I loved the pictures of the gorge sure wish I could be there. Was considering what how hard it would be to climb down into it. Doubt I could get back up.. Been using ski poles to help me climb hills and get in training for the climb in South Dakota. We're going to the Fairburn agate beds. it's uphill for about a mile. One of these days I have to stop doing that, laughing, hurts by the time I get down and most of the next day. But the view is sure worth it.

Shelly, glad your getting off the steriods. Sure is a wonder drug. They make me hungry but I can eat my cookies while walking on the treadmill in the exercise room. Might get a laugh from those waiting for the elevator.

Susan I sure would like to see a picture of that hill you deal with. It sounds extremely steep. Been using my ski poles to try and tackle some of the hills here. Seems to be working. Wonder if it would help you guys get up the hill? With just a bit of humor, maybe we should get you a golf cart that you can run up and down with.

Not much going on here, heard the geese this morning flying over the building. must be a sign of spring . know we're going to get some weather in the low 60s and then drop down to the 30s but it is only March. Probably will take one of the lady shopping today she gave up driving which was a good thing. Other than that nothing new.

Cathy....hi to Max. Had to giggle at the visual image of you shoving Bob back into his chair. Great reflexes. Last thing you need is to go through all that again.

  • Slick icy morning here.

Hi Max. It will be the same three I travel with. We all get along very well and have like mind sets. The thrill of the hunt. If you ever watch the program on cable called Prospectors you will get a feel for what I love to do. However, I no longer climb mountains only large hills. It's the aging thing.

Gordon, was dictation and the ipad does not always agree with what I say. Should proof read better. What I wanted to say was Dave's dad got the privilege of pinning his badge on him at the ceremony.

Think I may have gotten most of the moths. Prime will tell.
    Cathy

  • Hi to all,

Shelley I agree with Gordon there so many bad things that can happen with oral steroids and you don't want to just randomly put them in your body and then stop taking them for a day or two really causes a bad bad reaction in your body. You probably need to let your doctor know that you did that. My steroids are inhaled, not the regular pill form, so there are a lot less in micrograms not milligrams big difference so grateful to have them.

The sun has come out and it has warmed up a great deal. Will be heading off for my glass class in just a few minutes. got home from the mission work early this morning. So nice when so many people show up to help and make it a lot easier morning.

We're celebrating a bit today, as it is my son-in-law's 25th anniversary of being a firefighter. I remember watching his dad, who was also a firefighter, pin his bed with a great deal of pride. Somethings are really fun to celebrate. He is only going to be 48 in June. Can retire and start a new career. Can't get any better than that.

  • Just reading instructions for posting pictures. Unable to to it from an iPad.

    Cathy...,thinking I could pot a great sunrise.

  • Happy overcast grey and snowey Thursday. Just counted all the members your have had over the years. Remember most of the 70 of them. Course NancyG and Lee are gone now.

There are times I don't post cause there isn't anything to say. Spending my time doing research on our upcoming field trips for this summer. The one the end of May will be in the public areas of the Buffalo National Grasslands of South Dakota. Just on the outer edges of the Badlands. Such a beautiful area.

Let's see, what else is going on ...hmmm. Well I do have a battle going with pantry moths. Must have purchased something with them hitch hiking along. Going to do some heavy cleaning in the kitchen today. Any ideas to get rid of them would be appreciated.

Susan, oh wow on sparkey!! What do you have to do to keep them out of the engine? Feel bad for Bear. On top of everything else not being able to see has got to be so frustrating. When I read about him falling over it reminded me of two people in my building who have similar issues. They are loosing the feeling in their feet and hands. One we don't know the cause other than she has severe COPD and the man down the hall was told it was a side effect of his chemotherapy from five years ago. Both have give. Up driving because their reflexes are not good either.

Gordon, I Liked the trees and the picture of the dogs. Was surprised when you said you don't travel as much as you use to. Although I know it takes a lot of planning and energy. What area do you call home? Hope your winter will be as mild as ours has been.

Hi to Irene and Shelly, max, katie, Bob and lurkers.
    Cathy

  • Good morning, well our sixty degree weather is fading fast. Tonight snow up to six inches. Gotta love March weather...like a roller coaster ride.

A month ago I started on Brieo for long term asthmatic lung inflamation.. For those who have not experienced it, feels like your lungs are itching and buring at the same time. Doing a great deal better on it and the best side effect is the steriod has dropped my arthritis pain level down about 70 percent. Wonderful to feel so good after all these years .

Having a surprise 80th birthday party tonight for a friend in the building whose kids have never had a party for her. Thirty people coming to wish our leap year girl her first birthday in four years.

Gordon, I love calm quiet days. Besides I don't have as much energy as I use to have. Lol

Katie, I likedthe glaze on your pot. I consider it artistic and not the run of the mill. Art has no limits as you can see by my first painting effort where my photo should be. Trying to learn to do watercolors but so far have a lot of paper with blobs on them...lol

Exciting day....going to get a car wash. To much salt on it.
    Cathy

  • Shelly, did not get bad advice. Tooth already had a very old root cannel. After discussing and viewing the X-ray decided not to put more money into it. It was a goner.

    Started to cool off again.

    Cathy

  • Hi everyone, I am ok. Oral surgery went fast. I elected to have the bad tooth pulled and put on a pattcial instead of spending a thousand dollars on a root cannel that my last only a few years. Then having to pay more down the line. Not much happening in my life worth talking about. With a smile...that is ok with me.

Seems we will be keeping the smaller thrift store one more year. Gives them time to see if we can locate a bigger place. Know we will have to get a second dumpster since we do get a fair amount of items that cannot be sold. Stained clothing, chipped and cracked etc...well you all know that. Not sure who will be picking and choosing the volunteers to work at the smaller store. May be out of a job. If so there are many new thrift stores opening on the area if I get the urge to volunteer.

Speaking of smoking...I did quit cold turkey. Soooo very hard to do. Parents both smoked. Mom did eve who,e pregnant with us. I have chronic asthma now but so far well controlled on a new med. fingers crossed.

Off to church then, because it might hit sixty today, a nice walk to the village and library. Enjoy your day all.
    Cathy

  • Getting out the door to the dentist.

Hmmm? Had no idea Nancy was unlicensed. If I had known that I certainly would have done the driving while I was there. Thought in California you had to have insurance also. Yikes. Yes I did read on her facebook page the officer was charged because he lied and did not have his lights flashing while going to the bar fight. Family was compensated.

Lee fought breat cancer for almost two years. Was a very aggressive type. When she last posted on a Friday to let us know the end was near and she was ready to go it was a very sad day. She was a very gracious lady, and had just had a great grand daughter.

Susan, as you know lots of infections in teeth can cause severe problems. Know it is very expensive to get them fixed. I dread going today but if I wait I am sure this tooth will make my face blow up like a balloon. Many dentists have smaller no interest payment plans now.

Ok, off I go. Will check in layer.

  • This is about Nancy. I had just been at her home in Bakersfield two week prior to her death. Lovely woman. Horrible way to have your life end.

    http://www.bakersfield.com/news/2014/10/02/family-of-woman-killed-in-crash-involving-deputy-retains-law-firm.html

Having oral surgery tomorrow....yucky. Will check in if I feel up yo it during the week.

  • Hi all.

  • Gordon, Danny Simmons ebay Id is longshot-collectables ...if I have it wrong add an s to longshot. You do have to put a hyphen between the words. He is also on facebook.

    Cathy

  • Good morning, Marson, Gordon, Irene, Shelly, Max and lurkers.

After two days of spring like weather were headed back to cold and snow. Max, you need to send the warmth back up this way.

Gordon, like your new home and sorry you lost Nice. You take such good care of them. Danny...who lives in Anderson Indiana has been asking about you. Gave him a link to your you tube videos.

Nothing new here. Adjusting to first time taking meds. Not good at remembering...lol...unless I can't breath again.

Off to church and Sunday breakfast with a friend.

  • Good morning Irene, Shelly, Max and lurkers.

Very cold again but the sun is on the move...yeah. The thrift store was so cold that even the customers didn't linger. It is a big store and cost a bundle to keep it higher than 68. So there we were sitting with coats on. Lol. Sales and donations way down because of winter md peole not interested on cleaning and dragging things over to us. No word yet on new place.

Today taking two people out for Chinese. Got to get rid of my craving. To cold to do much else. Am I getting to be more of a wimp as I get older? Often think of Wes in N.D., but then men are hardier..I think.

Max, my friends who winter in Aransas pass texas are vey lucky this year. Has been staying in the high sixties this year. Although one year it was warmer in wisconsin and we had to tease them about leaving. Would love to have the money to leave from the first week of January to late April to avoid the cold. Sounds like for the most part your weather is ok this year also. I don't know what you consider cold down there.

Tomorrow I get my christmas present. Daughter and I going to the milwaukee symphony orchestra to hear/see them present Frank Sinatra. Last time I went I saw garrison kellor (sp).. Saturday night a group if is are going to a free play at a very large church about older couples and love. Some of the performers are professionals and every event is so well done.

Are any of you watching Downton Abby? I will sure miss that series when it ends.

  • Good morning, staying in the mid thirties with a few perks of sun. See budding beginning on the trees. Should have leaves by late April.

Susan, sounds like the md appt I had on Monday. My body is fighting off something. White cell count off the charts. Gave me a high end inhailer sample and will supply me for a year. Med is over three hundred a month and he know I can't afford anything close to that. Got prednisone for tive days and boy what a difference that makes. Shame a person can't stay on it long without so much damage yo other things. Ferl grat for now. Ok, will take this as just another wrinkle in life and move on. Ha, when people ask how I am doing I always say great as I wince getting out of a chair. Lol. My mom used to say Never give up or give in if you can help it.

Sorry to read about your back. Do you know how you might have gotten fractures? Injury or just aging? Sounds like you have a good through MD watching over you.

Shelly, get the mammogram over with. Probably the only test I don't put off since I am not a big fan of tests and doctors visits.

Making plans for our first big dig in South Dakota in late May. Very excited about doing that with the group again. Might do a short one in mid April to lower illinois. Another favorite place of ours.

Today is just glass class and ?? I have no idea what else I can get into. 10 of us are working on a thousand piece puzzle to give to the school next door to the mission I volunteer at. Sure have had some belly laughs over our lack of ability so at times. But still you will always see someone standing by it trying to fit on one piece.

  • Hi, only an inch or so expected in my area near the lake. Very happy about that. Have MD appt again today and then have to go sign up to get my taxes done. We get them done free at the library but an appt is needed. They do them thru the end of April. I am in no hurry.

If you have a scanner you can get great jewerly pictures. Just cover piece with white paper leave the lid up, and scan. I had a problem getting a good angle with my digital camera also and at times I found I was in my own way creating a shadow. Good luck. You might also try taking the shade off of a table lamp and putting it next to the piece so it shines down onit. Think that would stop the flash from activating.

See it is PatC's bd. I remember her. Last I heard she was in Florida but that might have changed. Know she likes living in Denver and working at the airport. Wonder what happened to SueB. Loved her very funny posts about her birds.

Max, if you want to try it. They have gel filled seat pads at WM. Changes they angle of the hips when I sit. Took the pain away. I sit a lot when I am painting and had something similar happen. Might work with any heavy chair pad. Just an idea. Sure wish I could come and sit on you patio and soak up some sun. I could bring some rats and we could cook out..lol. How is Bob doing?

    Cathy...over and out for now.

  • Irene, if you email yourself a pic sure you want to post there should be a box that pops up that allows you to resize the picture this should happen when you use the attachment section in your email to grab the picture out of your photo gallery I can do this using an iPad. I don't know what system you're using guest trap or iPad let me know and I'll see if I can help. That should be desk top or ipad. Cathy

  • Good morning just a drive-by to let you know everything's kind of quiet here. My day will consist of taking someone to get their hair done and then we're going out to eat some nice Mexican food. Still waiting to see if our storm will come or not. It's not supposed to hit here till Tuesday night into Wednesday but we'll see what happens.

As far as the new store we have some rumors of a new store but nothing concrete yet. We have to be out of the old store by end of April so just don't know what's going to happen.

With a bit of humor I am dictating this instead of typing so I apologize for any big typos or things that don't make any sense. Trying to save my hand it's getting Somore and more sore as the days go on. So decided toit is best to just rest it and keep the old brace on for a few days.

  • Hi everyone, see we all seem to be doing ok. I've cancelled the weather here. Weeks of overcast days does that to me. Just blah out there.

Had to look up the Murano glass cockatoo on ebay. Very pretty. See some colors do better than others but to me they are all interesting.

Cleaning out the thrift store is proving to be a challenge. We are calling a high school to see if any of the kids need a service project. Lol, I did one trip down and up the stairs with a box and decided that was not going to work for me. No one there is in good enoughr physical shape to make repeated trips.

Hi to Wes. We were considering venturing into North Dakota on a field trip but there seems to be a lack of gems and minerals to hunt. Will do S.D. One more time this spring. Happy to read Gordon is doing OK. Cathy

  • Shelly, if you check the members list you can see who has been here and when. Gordon has not peeked in in over two years. Few lurkers but a lot not active.

    Off to get moving. Cathy

  • Happy Wednesday all. Not a thing new here. Neighbor dropped off a book she was sure would be something I could be interested in reading. Tales of a Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman. Smiling...she knows me well. Liked the first few pages. We will see. Hope to find it online in Overdrive so I can read it in my iPad and make the print larger.

Stay warm. We're half way through winter....yeah. Cathy

  • Good morning,

Irene, Going to be a typical winter day here also. Rain then snow then really cold. With some humor I say "bring it on and get it over with". Noticed the sun is setting just a little later now.

Happy for Bear. What will he do with the deer? I don't eat that type of meat either.

Staying around here and making soup. Might watch a movie later. Lazy day.

  • Hello everyone, have been busy toss out furniture and things I no longer use or need. Quite a job. Had DIL and GS here to move it all out. Looks great in here. I am not a clutter person. Even dragged several buckets of lesser quality rocks to the thrif store. Sold a lot of them right away. One lady brought thirty of them for a dollar each. Kept the best specimens in my collection. Minding it harder and harder to move things around so that is the reason for the big push to clean.

Shelly, thanks for that information. Sadly my hands will not allow me to do hand sanding. Problem with them swelling up when over used. Will continue with my glass class until April and then will see if I can and want to continue. Fun being creative but what to do with it all is a problem. As for the rodent problem. Dealerships here charge an extra fee, or at least they use to, if a rodent of any kind chewed the wiring in cars. Remember we had to get a professional exterminator in at the thrift store to get rid of them for us. Wish you a lot of luck catching them.

Max, wow I never knew about the black walnuts. Critters must have iron stomachs. Especially squirrels. They seem to munch on almost everything available. Does it appear the cold will reach your area?

Hi Irene, I am with you on hunkering down with hot chocolate and maybe not a book for me but certainly a movie. I think that Dowton Abby is one of the best series I have watched in a very long time. Would like it if the author would write another series with different plot and characters. Might go to the library during errands today and see if they have the series Upstairs Downstairs. Only saw a portion of that one.

Susan, gave up on football for this year. Packers can't seen to get it together this year. Golf does not interest me but will occasionally watch basketball. No baseball ...like watching paint dry. Car racing is ok.

    Hi Bob,

I did by a powerball ticket but it was just so I diden't get the feeling I might have missed out. Lol. Want to get to the thrift store early this morning. Stopped in yesterday and between three of us we got rid do all the Christmas leftovers. Now we are starting to bring all the items from the basement upstairs to be sorted and marked. Down to three months to clean everything out. Still no word on where we will go and when. Cathy..over and out

  • Sending you wishes for a new year full of happiness and contentment.

Ann, thanks for the lesson on pecans. Remember people with poles hitting the trees when I lived in San Antonio. Such a strange sight for a person from the north. If I find a deal ion them here I will also now freeze them. Do you keep them whole or grind them up first? Did not know they lasted so long. My favorite is making fresh cranberries with orange relish. Freezes well and goes with so many meats.

Resolutions?? Not this year. With a bit of humor I can make them and forget about them in the same day. Guess my thing should be to take a little better care of myself. There will be many small changes coming like the thrift store closings this year. So far no idea if they have found some place to move to or not. Time will tell. Will only work at the mall when someone has an emergency. Physical to hard on me. Gee and I am only 70. Hope for a few more trips also.

What is it you all want to happen this year? Do you make resolutions?

    Cathy...having coffee already.

  • Boss called and had us close at five. Treterous (sp) out there. Cars are stuck in the drive areas md lots. Pure ice coming off the lake right now. I am home safe and sound. Ha, only really dumb teens wandering the mall.

Going to eat and play cards. See you tomorrow. Cathy

  • Today it seems we will get a bit of everything weather wise. Rain, sleet, snow etc. warnings went up last night. Here we have two back up generators to keep the heat and refrigerators running. Hall lights also. Doubt we will lose power but you never know. Just this second heard the snow has hit just south of here. Perhaps the weather guys have it right this time. Always feel bad for those who have to drive to work in it.

Family get together included a surprise. Old friend who we have not seen in a very long time came. Daughter invited her but kept it quiet. Nice to see her again. Since they are into social media and not telephones we don't communicate. Sad to see the 40 to 50yr olds get so caught up in it. Ok, off the soapbox..lol
    Cathy

  • Forgot, Max. Could you post the GW sale site please. Interested in what they are doing and selling

    Cathy...over and out

  • Ok, everyone to Max's house. She has a full fridg and warm weather. Probably cookies also.

Shelly, my last day will be tomorrow. Positive it will be very quiet as compared to yesterday. Sooo many people buying we never got a down time. Ni just cannot deal with the pain issue. Must like me as they were trying to bargin hours with me so I would stay. Have a friend who I called who would fit in perfectly with the others who work there. Keeping my fingers crossed that she will consider it.

To day is our official family Christmas celebration. I heard there will be some prime rib and mashed potatoes......yummy. I just made some chocolate chip brownies to take along. I never need to cook and am grateful for that. Son, nolan and daughter in law will be there also.

Waiting to see if we will really get the ice storm predicted for tomorrow into Tuesday. I would prefer snow to ice. Will check in to see how everyone is doing later. Hope Irene does not need a boat by the end of these storms.

  • Good morning to all. My small family group had a very nice and slow paced christmas. You?

Irene, are you online for the next round of rain? Friends in Memphis missed the tornados but yard is, from how they discerned it, the begging of a swamp. Ice and sleet due hear Monday but I sure hope they are wrong. Would rather have snow.

Daughter, son in law and Evan made me breakfast. Then because we had some time before going to son in laws parents we watched the movie Elf. Some parts were really funny. Got home about six. The bigger family party is tomorrow so the kids can come and play till they drop.

Working today and Monday then done forever. Sure wish I was ten years younger with no AR or back problems. It is a nice job.

Will perk in later to read how your holiday were.

    Cathy...

  • Going to wish you al a very good time with your families and friends tonight and tomorrow.

    Cathy

  • Hi Marson, Where do you live? Wisconsin's grass is still growing and some of us have dandelions popping up. Off to wk will check in later. Cathy

  • Not much napping here either. Picked up some extra hours and the money will help a lot.

Got invited to three places on Christmas day. Have to think that one out.

Dealing with pantry moths. Never had them before. Been cleaning and tossing like a crazy person to get rid of them. Help !!

Need to get moving. Going to visit some old lapidary friends. Some of us, ahem, are getting older.

Great, great surprise. Daughter just called and asked if I would like to come to her house for Christmas breakfast. This is a first. Of course I accepted.

Read about how expensive the car repairs are going to be. Almost up there with going to a dentist...

    Have a good day everone.

  • Drive by....only said I would not be working at the mall past the end of the month. Thrift store is still to be determined on the new location the office chooses. Of course us volunteers will be the last to know.

Got cold here. Still no sun for the last week but at least no snow yet.

Off to get an oil change and tires rotated. Then to work for a few hours. Catch you all later. Cathy

  • Hi all,

Ann, wow what a way to end the year. Glad to read you got Bob in so fast for surgery. Oh and I totally agree with you..."men".

Not much happening here. Got the thrift today and work tonight. The store in the mall asked me to stay on but I told them the last week in december would be my last. Fun but to painful on my back and hips. Had to weigh the money versus health.

    Cathy

  • Happy birthday Shelly. May you have many more.

Only working at the store another week. Mall hours are now 8am to 11 pm. I only work five hours at a time and no more than two days in a row. Works well. Was asked to stay on but I declined. Even five hours on the body is hard.

Glad sparky got a new battery and bath. Only once did I find evidence of a rodent in my car. Opened the hood to put some windshield washer in and found a very stale hard roll resting near the battery with a few bites out of it. Glad the critter had moved on and did not chew on any wiring.

Looking forward to Downton Abby s final season starting in January. Anyone else lite it?

Off to a holiday party lunch. Then just napping, eating and writing Christmas cards.

Stay warm....well maybe not Max. Loved the golf cart for ups.

  • Hi to all. Been working at the mall. Owner came in and took most of the cash last night. Glad as I am a sitting duck when by nine pm most of the shoppers have left the mall. At least if we get robbed it won't be more than two hundred. Being older makes you a great target
    .
Would you believe our gas prices are at 1 79? Sure and now I can't travel. Not fair...lol

Shelly, it is a thrift store I volunteer at. The vase was donated. We support a foster care and adoption agency. Been in business for thirty years. Think the McCoy Vase and a few other high end items were or could have been given by one of our generous donators.

Have a holiday dinner here in the building this evening. Heard a lady who sang after dinner is coming back. Has a great voice. Sure will pick up this gloomy (again)over cast day.

    Later, cathy

  • Foggy Sunday morning here.

Ann, I am. Sorry for you loss of Terry and your accident. Sounds like your healing but slowly I am sure. I would guess your husband feels bad about putting the box where he did.
Seems you have a large family and group of friends to have so many for thanksgiving. Where do you put them all? Our family has shrunk to 13 of us. And with a bit of humor no one ever has to sit at the kids table anymore.

Shelly, nice finds. Noticed you referred to having the doldrums. Surprised me as you always seem to be on the go and getting things done. I have a restless nature and don't do well just sitting still. Not sure why and many times I wish it was something I had better control over. If I sit I fall asleep, lol

Working tomorrow five to ten again. During the week days the mall is almost empty by nine. Easy money.

Worked at hhe thrift all day yesterday. Had to call in a young man to drag all the boxes out of the basement that should be put out for Christmas. After three hours we still have stuff down there to be brought up and marked. Who ever packed it to put downstairs over the last year didn't bother to check to see if the light sets worked. Could have avoided a lot of extra work. Oh well. We will get it done.

had a donation of a large yellow sand dollar vase by McCoy. Perfect condition. Got a hundred twenty five for it. Same as asked on ebay now. I sold one just like it on ebay when I first started selling and got eight hundred. Prices sure have dropped over the years.

Well off to eat some breakfast. Have a cuurch event this evening.

Happy belated birthday Bob. Just an FYI, we had two kettles stolden at gun point this past week. Not sure if those ringers are safe anymore.
    Cathy

  • December 1st and winter is creeping in. Snow in the forecast ..nothing big but I still would prefer not to see it till lat February .

Irene, how is your knee now? Are you able to stay off of it? Twisting one of mine is a big fear of mine.

We have christmas hours at the mall now. Open all days to ten PM. By nine you could bowl down the halls. The unheard of has happened and I hope it catches on. Two stores told Simon Corp that they wanted to be closed all of thanksgiving day and night because they do not make enough money to make the payroll. They were given permission to stay closed. Now where I am working they made over two grand so unlikely to close unless the entire mall does.

Have been working the evening shift and I do like it. Less busy. Just busy with stocking and the few customers that wander in. Probably will be the last year I can do this. So very hard on my lower back to stand around for so many hours at a time. I do lean on the countere when there are no customers. Was told they might have me work the other store across town next week. For some reason they are having a hard time getting older workers. Was told you have to be thirty plus to get a job. Need maturity. Sure surprised me.

Helped decorate the building for Christmas yesterday. Then manager got pizzas for all who helped. Lots of laughs and confusion but fun none the less. Going to do my apt door as there is a contest with. Cash prizes for first, second and third place. Will take a picture of mine when I am finished.

Think it is coffee time so will stop in to see what everyone is up to later on today.
    Cathy

  • Happy thanksgiving everyone. Wishing you all a peaceful day.

    Cathy

  • Shelly. This building is a senior one and you have to be 55 or over to live here. It is independent living. Meaning no meal programs or other services. No assisted living section either. Yes we do have a community room which is big enoughr to hold all the residents. Has a kitchen also so if your rent it for something you can cook if needed.

The only Food events are those for our early summer pick it and a Christmas dinner hosted by the management for free.

About half of those who live here either work, kid sit or volunteer outside the building. Very active group. There are a few people who are part of what is called Moving In. Very low income and subsidized by the county. They have to go through a screening process and only the management can say who gets ot live here. I thnk there are five apartment like that. Mthis isn't done so the building can be a section 48 building. This means there are some apartments in a 40, 59, 60 percent income level. Of say, using this as an example, you have an income of 1500 dollar per month, based on social security, your retirement and a percentage of your savings or bonds etc. you could be paying only 650 per month. Electric is paid by you but even if you have your air conditioning on all summer your bill might hit fifty dollars at most. Unless you have a washer and dryer in your apartment then it would be more. Heat and underground heated parking are included in the rent. The large two bedroom apt. Are market rate and run just I've a thousand a month. There really big and on the corners of the building with wrap around windows. There are also smaller two bedrooms with a dinning room.

Lee have a library , exercise room with bikes and treadmills, and computer room for use by anyone. Also a small beauty shop.

I have the thrift store and also working tonight. Will stop by in the morning. Cathy

  • Thanks Shelly, no nota wind chime. It is made out of glass infused together. It is in five pieces . Held together bi eight pound fishing line. All pices are designed out of my head...no pattern. I don't do stained glass.

Worked for six hours today. Back is aching so taking the heating pad and stretching out in bed. Rather busy for a Monday afternoon. Will work part of Black Friday. Lots of lookers very few buyers at night.

    See younall tomorrow everyone.

  • Shelly, 38 with major heart issues? Hear more and more of that. Sorry for that family also.

I resent the picture as an attachment. See if that works. Those with phones or touch screens can make it bigger.

Working the evening shift today and tomorrow.

    Cathy

  • Waving at everyone. Just sent Shelly a picture of my fused glass. Mine is not typical but then neither am I. If you think of butterfly's or other thing made of glass that is called fused glass. Stained glass is completely different in that you have lead surrounding the pieces. I have made dicroic glass pendants also and you can google them to get the idea. Even some stores sell those and of course ebay and etsy.

Going to watch the packers/Vikings game and eat. I am surprise I have not gained weight living here. Smiling. No idea what tomorrow will bring.

Shelly, is your son doing ok today?

Susan, think I will try apples in it next time. Also like them grated in cole slaw.

Cathy..will drop in later this evening.

  • Susan, I would guess one pint of cream would do. You can always use evaporated milk from a can. I peel and slice one large baking potato and a large sweet potato. Any baking dish that will hold the potaots and the onion will do. Bake at 350 abt 30 minutes uncovered. I often take the dish out of the oven to stir them up. To see if their done just stick a fork in to see if their cooked through.

Very happy for your monetary gift. Kind of you to share the pictures and memories. Over the years we have gotten boxes of family photos donated to the thrift. We check the computer for family names and give people a call to see if anyone would want them back. If no names found we just sell the pictures. Some like them for the history. You would be surprised at the happy reception we get from those we find.

I have the mission at eight am and glass class right after. Going to be a very long day. Going out for a fish fry tonight before the snow arrives tonight. Guess it will be a surprise as to how much we actually get. Warm enough yet for it to melt quickly.

  • Forgot who needed to know how to get pictures from their camera to a computer. I bought a special cord at Best Buy, think you can get them at WM also. Cost $30 but well worth it. You attached the cord that charges the digital camera to one end and the other to the computer . Open your photo site and Turn on the camera. On mine a box comes up and asks if I want to download the pictures. Click yes and it sucks the pictures into the photo site. It will not erase anything off of the camera so if you goof you can do it over. Walks you all the way through it. Same cord they use at stores to let you print out pictures . Takes just seconds.

Scary...lol..ended up working at the store alone today. Manager thought I could do it and just needed to call him or any of the other girls if something came up. Only needed to make two phone calls....yeah.

Can't wait to hear what Susan got. Like a treasure hunt.

Off to eat dinner and rest. Back did not like standing on cement that long. BBL Cathy

  • Hi all,

Susan, this is going to be a fun day for you. Got me laughing this morning with your Mom thinking it was Fast to get your ears pierced. I remember my mom using that phrase also but not exactly what I tried to do that set her off.

Bob, that is a whole lot of people to kerp track of. Glad you enjoy it and especially the local groups in your area. Friendships are good.

Max,I am working only part time. Will get a schedule today. Am guessing a lot will be in the rush times in the evenings and the weekend after thanksgiving.

One to three inches here Friday night into Saturday. To warm to stick long but just enough for drivers to be reminded how slick it gets.

Thrift store yesterday did just ok. Rumor has it the the second store will be closing also and that they are looking about ten miles farther away to have just one store. Not till spring for any changes.

Did turkey shopping Tuesday. SIL is the cook for the family dinners, but has has a lot of double shifts coming up so he can take the entire weekend off. Decided to beat the rush.

SIL says his receipe for the potato casserole is sliced sweet layered with sliced baking potatoes and chopped onions. Sprinkle each layer with a little salt and pepper. Pour a carton of heavy cream over the whole thing and bake. Great but fattening.

Will be working gron ten am to two pm today.. Days are slow which is ok with me. BBL Cathy

  • Hi to all,

Susan what good news! Do you know the size of her storage locker? Was she a collector also. Now you have me excited to hear what you got. How or what spurred the lawyers to get a move on? Might have been your letter. At any rate ...yeah!! Had no idea about climate controlled storage areas. Great idea.

Hi Bob, wow fifty facebook sites? Know only one other person who has that many sites to read and post to daily.

Irene, I am with you on wearing earrings. I have fat ear lobes and after an hour I have painful dents in them. Been years since I put them on. No rings or bracelets either. Do wear a necklace occasionaly if getting dressed up or the whim stricks me. I am a plain Jane type person now. Guess I wore enough when I worked. Oh, and I never wear high heels anymore. I got comfy in my older age.

Wondering how Marilyn is doing also.

Got thrift store today. Since it is still raining I am thinking it might be a slow morning. Looks like at least another day of rain them the cold sets back in.

    BBL, Cathy

  • I am up and doing laundry. Will still see the movie. How long did you sleep during it? I fell asleep twice trying to watch Out of Africa years ago. Finally rented it.

Don't work today so plan on getting bits and pieces done. Think I posted where I am working is a shop that sells decorative items. Pictures, statues, garden critters, jewerly, scarves etc. lots of Christmas decorations also. Since it is unique they get a lot of business and sales.

    Cathy...passing out coffee

  • Just a quick Hi.

Susan, could your Aunts caretaker be of help or have you already tried to contact him? Sounds like a great deal of jealously going on. Or greed. Have seen a lot of that in families as I am sure all of us have. My guess if you hire a lawyer he could at least intimidate the other lawyer with turning him in to the state. Had to do that for my Mom after my Dad died. The lawyer had used the money for himself. Mom sat around calling him on and off for eight months before she told me about it. lol, I was young and aggressive so after two weeks she got her money. Wish I had that much energy now.

Working today for just four hours. Did some of the register last night with the owner and learned more where the stock is put. Things like that.

    Later, cathy

  • Hi again, wind has calmed down. Must have passed. Thirty mph is nothing to have in my area. Once again the weather people got a little to excited.

Have not been to a GW in ages. I seem to only go snooping around when I think I need something since I quit selling. Saved from buying by a one bedroom apartment and only two closets. When I do go there never are any antiques or high end collectables. My guess is more things sell from places like Pottery Barn than vintage anything. There is a place run by a church fairly far from here that has some nice art work. Many rooms and a second floor. Prices are good too.

Susan, wondering if you could find some free legal advice from a senior center or the department on aging if you have one in Your area. Might take only one letter from another lawyer to get things moving for you. Seems your being played and that makes me mad. What have the others had to say?

Having. Friend and her daughter over this afternoon. So will make some chocolate chip brownies to got with tea or coffee. Tomorrow they gave me four hours at the store and a few more on Saturday. Was just told to let them know if I need time off for anything. Nice to know.

Max, can't help you with the dust ruffles. Could be they were selling at one time or another. Hey send those Palm trees and flamingos this way..along with the warmth. How is your daughter doing? Where I use to live a couple made a palm tree out of white lights and strung it up on another tree. Always made me laugh. Creative if nothing else.

Santa is in the mall looking bored. Sincerely hope the bell ringers are on the lower level this year. Having them right out side the store door makes you have to shout at customers to hear them .

Time to move away from here. Catch you all later Cathy

  • Wish I had a few jolts of energy to comment on some of what I read. I have allergy eyes. Itchy and sore. Going to put drops in them shortly.

Seconds ago I saw several bolts of lightening and heard the thunder and now a big, big downpour. Amazing amount of water in just a few minutes. Ahhh, but here I am..snug in my penthouse apartment with cookies and milk..and itchy eyes.snicker. Well now it stopped just as fast as it came. Hey, must have hit something the parking lot lights just went out. We have a generator in the building so no problem here.

I hope your all going to be safe

Will post a lot more tomorrow. Did my first evening of work and it is a lot easier than the candy store....so far. Will have to take a picture there is soooo much stuff

  • Max, that is all that is on tv today. Had a chance to go but..there is also a Bucks game at the same time. Parking. If you could get into a lot would be twenty dollars or more. No thanks.

See we're going to be in for some 50 plus winds by Thursday night. Took everything off my porch already. Such odd weather.

Have to go rest my eyes. Been in the computer room for several hours and have eye strain despite wearing glasses.

    Cathy

  • Hi, Max, Susan, Marilyn , Bob, Shelly and Irene. Lurkers also.

Can't do Vicks. Kicks up my asthma then I have two issues to deal with. Took an antihistamine pill and that took care of it for me. I have heard of others taking that med and constantly coughing. Has got to be annoying.

There is suppose to be a new GW coming near where I live. Know the newer SA is doing well. Very clean store. Love not seeing chipped and broken items.

See the stores are not decorating like it has been in the past. No trees, santas, etc, saw a few clear snowflakes in JCP. icey look streamers here and there. Doing their best to dummy down a holiday. Saw very little in decorations for sale even at Sears. Down in the village where I walk it is completely different. This years theme is a Dickens christmas. Store owners were costumes and on two nights the HS kids and families stroll singing songs or playing insruments. Rhyman publications, they do cook books etc, has a sleigh so you can ride around and see everying. Some give out cookies and the dogs get treats.
A little spirit in the suburbs. Fingers crossed it is not so cold this year. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Doing the usual house work today. Trying not to go out and spend money.
    Cathy

  • 5:30 am Friday. Woke up to sinus issues. Decided to stay up so coffee is on. It is called Jamavian-me-Crazy. Door County Wisconsin coffee so maybe Max has already tried it. Dropped thirty degrees overnight....burr..Indian summer is over.

Did find out the daughter has mental issues and the police were called by Mom. Might have been threatening to do herself in. If she did go to the county mental health hospital she must have signed herself out the same day. She is back along with the young daughter of hers and the teenage boy. He was seen coming into the building with his own key at two am Wednesday by someone caretaker. Went into the kitchen and was obviously looking for food in the community room fridge. Not sure if he is on drugs but he spent ten minutes looking around the first floor. For something to sell?? Who knows. Several of us have been asked to watch and document what goes on and to see if the daughters car is here overnight. If they are here for the next two weeks she will be evicted. Some people just don't get it.

There isn't a new store yet that I have bern told. If they decide to move to another community I might continue once per week. Depends on how far away it is. We are all volunteers with the exception of two part-time managers. They are paid for only 14 hours per week. Unless of course they have to fill in for a missing volunteer. It is the 30th Anniversary of us being in that store this week.

Anyone heard from Ann, Chris or any other missing persons?

Going to lay back down until six thirty. Have the mission work and must leave around seven thirty . Cathy

  • Has everyone see. The news on this additive that can and has killed pets?

  • Foggy morning here. Two more days and the cold creeps back in.

    Hi Liz

Lady's daughter who is living in the builder with her got handcuffed and arrested on Monday morning. I wonder how the police knew she was here. Feel sorry for the young girl. How traumatic to see that. She might have been in school when it happened. No idea why.

Irene, I just downloaded a book from overdrive. Tried to start it tomorrow but it turned out to be a narrative instead of a story. Picked up the newest Bookpage at the library yesterday. Brill see if there is something to catch my interest. Had to smile at you finishing the boreing book. I can only get through three chapters before I take it back to the library. Thankfull I don't have the room to put books I might buy at the thrift. Started a light weight book by Janet Evanovich. Seems funny so far.

Just have thrift store today. Have not stopped all week so no idea what is happening.

    Cathy...coffee is on.

  • This was also just posted.

this is Lee's son Tim. I just wanted to let you all know that she passed away today from cancer. She went peacefully with family members by her side. She spoke often about the "potty board" and the various friends that she had all over that liked pottery. You were a significant part of her life and she really enjoyed those relationships. Please forward/post to anyone else that you think would like to know. I'll post the arrangements after we know more.

  • Just got a facebook email saying today was Lee's birthday. At least she is at peace now.
