also, brat cat dewey is doing fine. still a lot of energy for a 13-year-old cat. i really have never had a pet this long. but i can see some aging in him. his black hair is graying some & his face is narrowing some, lost the baby fat. but he'll see outrun anything & everyone around. & although he very rarely has to do it, he can handle any other cat, raccoon or opossum around, none of them want to tangle with him. but he's very friendly & sociable. i came back from the store a coupla days ago & he was stretched out on my picnic table with 3 of his buddies.

just checking in to see what's going on here & saw ann's post about geneology. i've been interested in that too. we've always known we were related to the famous hatfield clan of the feud. my mom's old family Bible was passed down to me with the family tree in it going back about 6-7 generations. my sister in virginia called me a coupla months ago about wanting know some dates on a coupla ancestrors & i dug it out, found who she was wondering about but i was shocked to see my mom had the tree all filled out but she put absolutely no dates in it!! i found the tie-in to the hatfields, a clara lusk hatfield. that would mean she married into the clan. about 2 weeks later, i was doing some google research on the hatfields after something i saw on on tv. i was googling all the ancestors on that tree & i found clara! found out something surprising. my beloved mother made a huge error in the tree. the name was Clara HATFIELD lusk, not Clara Lusk HATFIELD! which means that we are more blood to the hatfields than we all thought! her maiden name was Hatfileld, her married name was lusk!

i've had several asking about me & received a few emails. i'm fine & so is brat cat dewey. i've just been busy with ebay & stuff. i'm also very involved with facebook. i've re-connected with many many friends i haven't talked to in 40-50 years. also a lot of navy & Salvation Army news & ebay news. as of now i have 461 friends & belong to about 100 facebook groups, navy, Salvation Army, eBay, neighborhood groups.. i'm also able to avoid & block people i just don't want to mess with. i don't have to deal with people who want to do nothing but make up disgusting stories or tales about me which have no basis in truth & have been carrying on ridiculous feuds going back to the old boards. i know you all know the ones i'm talking about. it's very easy to find me. my home page is https://www.facebook.com/lookwhatbobfound or you can find me by looking for Bob Smith Salvation Army (that narrows down the thousands of Bob Smith). come find me there.

gordon, the looter thing but also to keep the roads clear, it was too dangerous to drive. also to keep them clear for emergency vehicles.

i've gotten several people asking through emails how i am doing. i evacuated to my sister's brick house about 15 miles east of my mobile home, left brat cat dewey here, i felt he'd be more calm in his own home. they had a mandatory curfew in orange county from about 10pm thursday til 8am saturday. my sister lost power for about 5 hours early friday morning, it was back on about 10am. things had calmed down outside, just windy, no damage. about noon friday, orange county mayor teresa jacobs announced that conditions had improved & they were ending the curfew at 2pm friday. i came home, no probs & we never lost power here. the only prob was our only access road had lost some soil foundation on 1 shoulder where it had been re-paved with new housing developments on each side of the narrow 2-lane paved road & either orange county or oakland had placed a traffic cone. if any more foundation had gone, we very well could have been isolated here. but i'm home now, no damage to my place or my storage trailer.

shelly, sales have been abysmal this month, but is staying equal with july 2015. i did my normal monthly slashed clearance sale listings monday (items listed at least 3 years) & had 2 old books sell within 10 minutes.
my 2 year old window a/c has been dying the past week, working 1/2 way. so did some sales checking & found a good 1 at hh gregg on sale for $99 so grabbed it. it's in my car now, was too tired to worry about it last night, will do it tomorrow morning. our park handyman likes the old air conditioners, freezers, heaters etc. so he can use the parts for repairs, so i told him yesterday i'd leave the old one on the picnic table for him. he'll help me with the new 1 if i need him.
Australia Post just issued a set of vintage fruit labels stamps & the usps just issued a stamp for Indiana's bicentennial. details & pics are at posts 600-601 in the mailbag http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/VrQurvjpcRnL

First off, I am okay or will be okay. I had a terrible accident today , but I am doing better now. I decided to go horseback riding, which I haven't done in quite a while. Well, I got on the horse and started out slow, and then we went a little faster, and then we were going as fast as the horse could go. All of a sudden I fell off and caught my foot in the stirrup and the horse was dragging me around in a circle. It wouldn't stop, it just kept going around and around. Thank goodness the store manager at WalMart came out and unplugged the carousel.

shelly, they are used (along with 1 &10¢ stamps) mainly by businesses who use several different business rates in mailing. they use them to make up the difference between the different rates. that's why they're issued in the long coils. also mailers like me who mail pkgs all over the world & different weights & services. the thing that has a lot of collectors & small users of these small rate stamps this year is the usps has decided to not break up any rolls, you buy the whole thing or nothing at all. which means that a collector or a small business has to buy the whole roll to get just a few stamps!! there is a huge uproar over this new policy & it's being felt by the govt & the usps itself & the usps has said the policy is being reviewed & MAY be revised.
