• Morning Boards...book, glass, pot, et al.

Gray breaks, behind big white flakes.

Minus 2 last night up to 12 already.

Last week at this time I had had a horse missing for over 24 hours. A bit stressful to say the least.

Wonder if Richard will be given a ticket for being expired in the parking lot?

  • Hi everyone. Melted first back in summer then, got glutened in August, and then just enough lightning to keep me off line through first-ish of Sept. then, down in Illinois doing drs appoint. and taking Mom back , then wind, wind, wind, glutened again and then more wind. Lost two horses in four days (unrelated causes) but they were two of my brood mares and also used for lessons and trail. Now have ends of a little virus and we have more wind. Soldiering on.

  • Morning - Back from picking up the new used Yukon XL. All I need is a siren and a fireman's helmet and I am all set. You may or may not remember that I said it was BRIGHT RED. Really, really red. Got more than scrap price for the '93 not a lot more but anything more is great. He will part it out.
The new car has POWER, wow. Old one never had much umph even when newer. Don't know yet what kind of mileage I will get but seemed like close to old one. Will have to do more testing. I used A/C on way home plus had over a ton of feed and stuff in it which all can lower mpg.
Knew I had aminor couple of leaks when i bought it, but now have a crunking sound up fron. Strut? stabilizer? or something. Hear it on bumps on flat and when turning wheel. Harvey can look at it tomorrow. Go to Illinois doc in a couple of weeks so mechanic there can check it out but need to know I am safe to get down there.

Now waiting for Tramadol and Advil to kick in. I lifted a full bag of feed yesterday (I keep trying) and shouldn't have. Oh well.
Need to use the skidsteer, as we are nice and dry right now.

While I wait will give raccoon update. It comes even faster now when I say "here kitty, kitty" but now won't move till I am within 3- 4 feet of it.
I grabbed my helmet and flung it at him about 6-7 times. Got really close a couple of times. He then actually scurried under his hiding place rather than saunter ing away thumpin his paw at me.
Later watched him come out on my hay stack and do a Meerkat impression. Sitting up and looking for ???? I got as close as I could and yelled and it RAN. So maybe have instilled some fear of humans in him /it / her. really htink it is a him/ Males are smaller than females and is probably just a short yearling.

KATIE - yeah, kind of think those tree words should not be used together --- child, pony, stallion.
I have allowed a competent experienced child ride my stallions on occasion but only under strict supervision and with no mares in heat around. Of course the Icelandics are very different from other breeds but a stallion is still a stallion. My older stallion lives with geldings and the two younger ones (11 and 6) live together.

Good luck on your dinner ware. Can you soak your butter pat in bleach water? Or try baking soda with othe green scotch brite pad. ...or is it the blue pad??? I get coffee stains off with the scotch brite things.

SUSAN - Is this kitty one FROM the shelter? or a newly caught one that you caught? When I left last week I thought you were talking about one from the shelter but this one getting fixed now sounds like it was a different one. I am so confused.

I'm thrilled that all the other kitties got home safe. Can not remember if I told you how happy I was for you.

SHELLY - Did you ask if I had a new fur critter?? If so, NO. Just Teddy who continues to learn and progress. Can not believe I will have had Teddy seven years as of the end of this month. Time just flys.

Last week was 25 years since my Dad died and Bjalla (one of my mares pronounced B Yacht lah and slur it all together) was 25 on same day. She was born, almost to the minute, of my Dad's time of death. It was her iminent birth that led me to borrowing a video camera which enabled me to get 5 minutes of Daddy on tape, while relearning the camera, just 20 hours prior to his out-of-the-blue heart attack.

  • Hi everyone

Was supposed to leave today to go get the new used suburban. I did not get the new title and plates till last week. Hope I do not forget to take them. It is the GMC version. rather than the Chevy, so is now called a Yukon XL. Will most likely contiune to call it a Suburban as I will probably never get used to saying Yukon XL. LOL

Planning on selling car by the pound so putting as much of my scrap iron and tin inside as I can.
Will sell my #2 insulated wire separately. Have about 40-50 pounds of that and it is at about $2 a pound now.

If a miracle happens, and I sell the Burb to someone to drive, I could get about $950 to $1000. Will not have a lot of time for that kind of sale. Poundage is the easiest.

A friends SIL had a return to hospital after his open heart surgery started to leak blood into the pericardium. That surgery was done at major heart hospital in Midwest.
Personally do not think his home hospital, 400 miles away, did a good job of monitoring his Cumidin levels post surgery. They have a history of checking but then not adjusting levels on other meds.
Repair surgery was NOT done at his home hospital. They went to a very good, about a hundred miles away, facility.

Teddy has continued to learn. He almost heels like a proper obedience dog often with an automatic sit and also will wait for direction before getting a thrown stick. I can alternate between 'play' fetch and obedience fetch based on which words I use. Stay and take it for obedience and just a 'go get it' (or some such) for play.

Finally got the resident raccoon out of the tack room and then left the door open all night and it was back inside today. Ugh.

SUSAN - I was thrilled for you when I saw that Buzzy had been found. It is so awful when a pet is missing. Had a cat missing for 6- years or so. Will tell you the story one day.

SHELLY - Welcome back. Posted on GLASS but know you look here too.

  • HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Back from Illinois doc. Much relief for now. Took Mom a huge bunch of daffodils and a few forsythia, She loved them. We did power errands and finally found the right color and weight of denim jeans for her. Got her new new digital box from Comcast and true to my seeming to be ever present Murphy's law syndrome, it was defective. She is now waitning for new one to arrive and I hope my NC sister ( who is visiting Mom now) can change the cords.

Found some decent "free on side of road" stuff. Sold $80 worth comprising of a14 foot round rung wood ladder, clay flower pots, pressed back arm chair, pair of modern lamps with shades, really cool 'beads' (marble? Agro-agate?) which are like large bead-like ovally things on an old lamp part and finally the hardware off of an art deco waterfall dressing table. Also got a $20 finders fee for guarding art deco mirror from garbage trucks.
I got for me about 8 big Fieldcrest towels...the really thick ones, many storage containers, a kids puppet show stage, a big kids easel two sided with dry erase and chalk board including the chalk and paint, an older maple plant stand with nice lines (it does have a crack in the top which I think can be fixed) two 8" 4x4 posts, and a sled which I use to haul stuff around the farm and a tall 18 inch or so by 6-7 inches across, straight sided clear crystal vase and other stuff which escapes me now. Did not pick as much as some years. Only really got to do one section and that was a fairly brief hunt.

  • MARSON - Body at stables at Churchill downs??? googling

  • Well I am now going to Illinois tomorrow. Watched the radar and the lightning site to see if there would be a hole but it was pretty nasty so decided to wait. It is clearing down south now but it is too late today.

Found the file cabinet I was looking for and no title so have one more place to check or I will have to shell out $$ for replacement.
The little file cabinet I was looking for was not buried in the place I thought it was. Must have changed plan and left it at Mom's summer house. Founds it in my old cabin. My Nephew or BIL must have put it there for me but, as I did not do the moving, I had no memory. Therefore I must have the the title out of that file and put it in a "safe" place, somewhere in my house.
Drawback to old concussion issues is that some memories are not there. Title location being one of them.

KATIE - Thanks. If you get a hot buyer though, please sell it.

  • KATIE - LOL yes OK then it doesn't count. I love your CW album. If I had a spare $$ I would get it. How long do you want to hold it for me?

Been looking at radar. I do not want to drive in T-Storms all the way. Looking for a window to slip through. May see a couple of breaks that will work.

  • Morning -

I am off to Illinois to chiropractor today ,,,gone till Friday or so.

Finally got title to new used car, but not soon enought to get licencesd and swapped with old one before trip.
His credit union delay transferring $$, which delayed title co. sending title. Spent hours on phone with my state DMN, the seller, his credit union, and in person our police dept which now has plates. ugh
In bewtween that and normal stuff, Mom's Comcast TV cable co. messed with her service by switching to digital and sho woke up early almost two weeks ago, with no TV, so have spent hours on phone with Comcast trying to learn new system so I can explain it to her.

If anyone has Comcast, beware, they are changing system so you can not program your own equiopment to change channels. You will have to chnage a channel on an adapteter box. Was told it was like a digital converter but turns our it is a decoder as they say even a digital TV or DVR will not work with it. What a pain.

Now hear flash flood warning for Northern Illinois this PM. Debating if I want to drive in storms or not.

SHELLY - Hope you are healing well. Know you check Pottery And Glass so putting it in both.

KATIE - Duck egg cup? Only $1? I swear I read you were downsizing and not bringing another thing into the house. LOL

  • Morning - Cold last night
Trying to find my title to old suburban. Actually I know where it is, but it is buried in a little storage file cabinet.

IRENE M - Would think if you had heard of a med that might cause problems it would be nice to share what it is. Might help prevent a problem for someone else.

BTW anyone - Heard this morning about nickel allergy being caused by food is a new thing being discovered. They listed some foods that were high in nickel one was lima beans I think. I won't have to worry about too many of THEM! lol
Though one thing they mentioned was tomatoes in metal cans. Seems we knew about that as kids. I have always been aware of acidic tomatoes reacting to metal. It was on the CBS morning show today One can google to find more.

Also, have been seeing ads for class action suits re: tylenol and liver failure . Again google for more info. I won't have tylenol ( acetaminiphin) in my house or take anything ( knowingly) with it in it.. Sister had a frien loose her liver to it and she did not drink either. It is just one of those things that you don't know when it will kill you.

Just like dogs and chocolate. Might not bother some dogs in even large amounts but a tiny bit could kill another dog.

I found a drug site a couple of years ago...you have to really hunt to find it...FDA I thing drug trial results. There are sooo many drugs that have a 2-5 % chance of death that have been approved. Personally I do not want to play Russian roulette.

  • IRENE M - Glucosamine is to rebuild and retain cartilage, not bone.

SHELLY - Me hitting hay too ...and not the horse hay. See post below your's a few. I found similar vase in auction. Mainly curious about year made. The exact mark is not in the McCoy mark link. it is just a hair under 6 inches. I measured this time. lol

  • IRENE M - I would be curious to know where you got that info about glucosamine. I have never heard or read anything detrimental about it. Googled just now and see no indication of it causing brittle bones. Lack of it can cause bone issue though. Some people do not any gain benefit from it and some might have allergy issues if they use the shellfish version.
Had an MD say one did not need chondroitin however just the glucosamine. I only take Glucosamine Sulfate and MSM.

Believe Gordon fell out of his van and did not go to DR right away so walked on broken foot for a few weeks. That may have caused bone chipping.

  • Ummm....GORDON --- Believe that is the same link I posted to show where I found the mark that was similar. My exact mark is not in there.

Must be a guy thing lol

  • Pottery question

I found the McCoy mark on this page http://www.mccoypottery.com/mark.html But it is not exact.

It has the McCoy only text like this one http://www.mccoypottery.com/images/marks/mccoyusaround.jpg bit it does not have the horizontal lines or the top and bottom ( like circle parts) curved lines.

It has "Made in" straight across, above McCoy and U S A straight across below. It is a raised mark.
Pattern is like a Laurel leaf maybe?? with three biggish ( 1/2 inch or so diameter) berries.
detailed veined leaves come down from the top . Other plain long leave in background that continue to the base.
Basic urn? shape, little applied handles (like a narrow numeral 7) about half the size of vase. Approx three inch base, 7-8 inches tall.
Looking from the top the top has a rectangular appearance, from the side the ling side of rectangle has a "V" notch.

It is a nice sunny yellow. Not too green or pastelly. A happy yellow.

I know a pic will be better but hoping with this someone might be able to tell where I can see samples to see if I see the same one.

Pooh, went to the PO. No title yet. Thought it might have gotten here in two days

  • MORNING!

Found the McCoy site on the side links. Going to try to date my yellow McCoy vase.
Will put pic up eventually but do not hold your breath. lol

Off to see if PO can hold my mail. Maybe the title will be here today.

DOLORES - The worst in looking for a car is to ignore the things you really like and want, but that are only esthetic. Color shape etc.

Forgot to mention ...This car already has the things (vent shade? shield?) that apply over the side window( front only and will need back ones) and the bug shiel. Both needed. You can not drive with windows open with out the door ones and the guard helps keep windshield less buggy.
Newer Suburbans / yukon XLs and cars do not have vent windows. These cthings enable you to drive with windows open an inch or two and not get blown away AND if raining keeps the wet out.
Since newer cars also do not have natural vent openings that just draw air in from the outside I can have real air if I want.

It also is already beefed up in the suspension department. If I had found a 1/2 ton I would have had to pay $200 plus for special air shocks installed (none of the newr ones have equal suspention to my '93) and the shields are about $140 or so. Turns out I can not buy just the back window ones alone so may see if I can peel mine off and make do on the new car for a while. The body styles are different so will use trial and error. That save another $340 ish

  • GAYLE - Was hoping that maybe the HVAC guys had moved them inside for you and you would find them there....but I see that did not happen.

  • GAYLE - OMG stolen right off the porch?! Awful. So sorry.

MARSON - I am a very good driver and don't deliberately speed...as long as I have cruise control I am OK. lol I'll still feel like a target but red color safer than fog grey/silver or snow white or night black.

GORDON - Think I have done all the fire truck jokes myself already. lol

  • Hi to everyone!! reading, especially on the BOOK, POTTERY and GLASS boards which are the three I post on the most. I am doing this in one post to save time and personal energy.

I have read read all three boards and hopefully have retained some points which I want to respond to. So PLEASE, if I missed something important don't get your undies bunched. lol

First a little update on my activities. A big concern for me this winter was that I needed a new vehicle capable of towing my 16' stock trailer. You may or may not remember that my hitch receiver peeled off of my frame rendering that vehicle incapable of ever towing anything again. I have high mileage but a well maintained engine and good maintenance. It has 210,900 miles, runs extremely well, gets 18-20 mpg, on tiny oil leak that happens only when running ( and that mostly at idle), the A/C pump/clutch (?) went out just after the hitch broke so have a new bypass pulley for the serpentine belt and the mechanic hit some wire when the cut the remaining hitch attachment off making a draw on the electrically system, so I now just disconnect my battery when I shut it off. Not really a big deal but it does get tiresome sometimes..

Anyway, I began "THE GREAT CAR HUNT", in January/February, just looking to get an idea what was out there.

I have a 1993 GMC Suburban 1/2 ton and need the equivalent as a replacement, which means a GMC Yukon XL or a Chevy Suburban. GMC is higher end than the Chevy ( like Caddy to Chevy in cars) but basically they are the same style. My Mom said she would help me, as I have no extra resources. I was looking at vehicles with 100,000 plus miles, in the late 1999 area as that was all I could afford and those are selling for $5000-7000 and higher!

If I found one with a good body, it had other major issues, or good maintenance but bad body. One, a GMC ( and happened to blue, and would blend with trailer) had a typo and was a 1995 and not a '99 AND had 220,00 miles but had been owned by a mechanic for a year. Sigh - My mechanic said no.
Being gun shy about rust ( midwest winters and salt) that factor was especially high as a concern.
Found several with good maintenance, one owner, replaced transmission ( a known suburban issue) and ready to go another 100,000 back in the winter but choices were fewer now. Looked for weeks this spring and found nothing decent to even look at. Then found three in succession which warranted a look see. Two in Green Bay a 200 + mile round trip, remember, I am in the boonies.
They were both 1999's with 118,00 and 148,000 miles. The lower mile one had only been owned privately for 1 year the other was at a dealer ( a trade swap with another dealer so no history).
The first one's A/C went out between first conversation and second so that was a no deal. Second would have been easiest transition as dealer would do all paperwork and give me $600 trade for my '93 ( making less tax) and a warranty for the drive train was available.
The third one ( highest mileage at 185,600) was the farthest. It was 350 miles away, way up in Copper County in the Kewanaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan. Road trip?

BUT it had been a Nevada car and in Michigan for only 5 months! I knew I had to at least look at that car. If the frame was as good as the guy said the high mileage could be outweighed by the lack of rust.
So left last Wednesday test drove the dealer car on my way. It had more rust than mine, it's muffler/exhaust sounded like it was in the first little stage of going, the shift was very hard and had cargo doors with a blind spot and the hitch had awful rust flakes on the inside of the receiver.
The only really good thing was the radio did work AND got WGN from Chicago. I have not had a working radio for over ten years. lol

Got to my friend's house in eastern Upper Michigan that night about 8 my time. We got up at 4 my time, 5 her time and on the road about quarter to seven. I had never been west in the U.P. so all was new and interesting. No interstates all two lane but very little traffic. Hit snow squalls for and hour or so but no sticking. Saw mine areas and mine shafts, slag heaps, beaver lodges, Eagles, more mine shafts, mining museums. Would have loved to have stopped to play tourist.
Got to the guys apt. saw right away the bumper was a bit pulled at the corners. A cosmetic thing. It hit something square on center which brought the two sides out a bit. At the back it looks lik someone took giant forceps and pinched the rear fender in just ahead of the tail light. Even round dents, also cosmetic. Opened all the doors worked all the windows, etc.
Then got my towel out to lie on and got under the car. WOW!!!!! WOW WOW!!!! Parts of the frame still have factory undercoating, other parts look brand new. The most rust was a dusting, like if you killed a good cast iron pan washed it and let it air dry. It even still has paper labels on the frame!
I test drove it on the was to the service place I had lined up to check it out. I also asked them to test drive it. The mechanic ,Ron, and I went out leaving friend and seller at the shop. When Ron tried the four wheel drive it did not work. Oh-oh.

We then got it up on the rack. Saw two leaks right away. I knew where they were coming from and idea of repair cost on the one but not the other. Buyer had so no leaks, but he was only looking for ground spots. He has gravel so they would have been hard to see. One is either valve cover or oil pan gasket $250 or so. Other is some seal in transfer case $250-300 and would replace all four ( I think 4) gaskets in that if I did it. Wheel bearings good, might need ball joints in a year or so, suspension good, brakes good, but all in all ( except the 4 wheel not working) still good for the price. He is in the boonies too so not many buyers. Also has SS exhaust which should last forever and maybe a SS muffler. Called my mechanic told him all he said it was still a very good deal so It was a go.

THEN, the buyer decided he had to see why the 4-wheel didn't work, as he had used it all winter. He gets it in 4-wheel and CAN'T GET IT OUT!!! Ugh!!! that was a no deal as could not drive the 150 back to friends in 4-wheel.
Over two hours later, friend now napping back at apt., in my car, buyer and I are driving around, with him trying to get it back in two wheel drive. I call the service station and ask Ron if there is any way to manually release the hubs. he says no but if someone got underneath and tapped the transfer case hub motor while someone pushed the 2-wheel button it might work. Mush like tapping a bad starter to jar it pasts a bad spot. IT WORKED! Called Ron back and asked if it was " in" would it stay with no chance of slipping back into 4-wheel. He said I was good to go. It is now 14 minutes before the credit union closed ( they stayed open a half an hour late for us) I handed over the cashier's check and travelers checks ( got part in TC just in case I could get him down a bit on price, even though he said, on phone, $6000 was rock bottom) got a copy of the title faxed from the lien company in Utah, went back to buyer's apt and we hand wrote bill of sale, signed and witnessed by friend. Had wanted this all ready when we were at the credit union but his printer was broken, my friend forgot to print one for us and the CU guy had gone way out of his way already so did not want to ask him to print it. I had wanted to have it ready and have them notarize it.

There is a lot of trust between strangers in this deal. Title with lien release will be sent to me, I have the car at friend's in MI, 150 miles closer than buyers house, she drove it to her farm on his plate as we could not get temps with out original title getting home at 11 PM her time that night.
Next day I discovered that I wrote mileage wrong on bill of sale so made and add-on and sent to him to sign and return when I sent his plate back. He sent me the signed add-on mileage statement which I got yesterday and now I am waiting for the title.

    Whew are you tired yet?

The next few days I went to scrap and salvage yard to see what I could get for my car. Have estimates from $275 to 600 ish as scrap or parts. May put add on Craig's list to lsell in her area. Car runs well and could always be scraped for that 600 ish. Running as is, is worth at least $900-1000 even with issues. friend can ferry me around to do shifting of cars up there. My tires are better so will have to swap them too.

Anyway. I am now the owner (working on the proud part) of a 2001 GMC Yulkon XT SLT K2500 with NO RUST. Oh yeah, this one is a 3/4 ton. Another bonus. My mechanic said even with the leaks and 4-wheel drive out, the car was still a great price. Oh the lift window has a bad catch, think it is minor, I can still open the whole lift back. No blind spot in this one.

Only drawback is that it is bright RED! I will feel like a target. My friend said it drove like a dream and I will really like it. Ah well, me and not liking "change". I am sure I will get used to it eventually. Thank You MOM!

CASINO - Glad Pat is home again and doing better. Hope you are too.

MAUREEN - Glad you solved the mystery of your recent issue. Bored, yeah been there. Felling better but still can't "do".

SAM - How's the kitten? That tiny sounds like mom could have been moving litter and lost it or tossed this one out because it was sick.

KATIE - When i was in the apt in winter 08 the apt mate did worm farm so I learned a bit. That is so cool that you do it.

SHELLY - I am still here. Good luck on your upcoming knee thing.

AMBER - If kitten is tiny it should not be played with. Did you call all the vets and shelters to report it too? Have had kittens stolen from me because people just took and kept them.
Good glucosamine can be found without shellfish. you just have to look. Not all glucosamine is created equal. Fillers and binders keep some from working in some people. and a few people do not get any benefit. I think it is great but took me a while to learn that not all are the same. Look into MSM too.

GORDON - Guess you should have gotten x-rays sooner. Hope it heals.

GAYLE - Glad Lassie came home. That is the worst not knowing where your fur kid is.

NANCYG - Try holding a treat to get Zack to look at you while holding the camera and work up to shooting, not up to your eye but "from the hip" or.... Plus if he were at your height.....On couch and you sitting in chair would work. It would be a better framing too. The Penny avatar on Pottery board is one of about thirty pics I took to get that one good pose.

OH POTTIES - picked up a cute little yellow vase with a raised botanic pattern. It was a Mc Coy so I got it.

GAIL - worried during tornadoes but read enough to see you were OK. Do not know exactly who else is in that area.

    DON - Lovely pink pitcher.

    NANCY G
The Scoop On: Raw vs. Cooked Fruit

"... OAS sufferers are only allergic to the “heat labile proteins” – the proteins in the fruit that get destroyed once exposed to heat. ..."

".......There are some tricks you can use to try to cheat nature – but they may not work for everyone. Dr. Bruce Mazer, director of the division of allergy and immunology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and associate professor at McGill University in Montreal, suggests microwaving the fruit, like an apple, for a few seconds.

He also suggests sprinkling lemon juice on the raw fruit and letting it sit for a few minutes before eating. These tricks may help to break down those heat labile proteins while still allowing the fruit to be somewhat crisp. You can also simply try peeling the fruit first since most of the fruit’s proteins are in its peel. ....."

I got the mega ball and one other number so I won a whole whopping $3. Net win of $1. Fifty percent return I believe.

I might get a couple of cups of gasoline with my winnings.

Today is first day of spring schedule. We are back to 5 boats I think. Tim my trail rider is coming today to visit. Too early to ride but he missed the horses and the dump. lol

I go to Illinois to Doctor on Monday for a few days. We had three inches of snow yesterday but non of the wind or rain that was due.

    GORDON - lol

  • I had a friend in MI buy me a couple of Mega tickets. I don’t know I could get that ticket on the Island. We didn’t used to have capability to getting some of the games due to the high speed thing.
Anyway….. She just read me the numbers. One of the tickets won me some money!

I can't tell if your sign is full 3D sit on ground sign or a flat sign with some demension to it. I would put it at $250 or do more research. It is 25 years old unless they are reproducing them and probably limited.

If a real sign may not be many of them as they may have been tossed. What was the original purpose of the sign. Is it a sign to advertise the model kit?? yada, yada

LIZ - My Teddy hates water. His first bath he sounded like I was murdering him. He ki-yied for a few minutes before he figured out A. I was not going to stop and B. he really wasn't dying.
He will now not only stand in tub for bath, but jump into tub even if it has water in it when I ask him to. He may not be thrilled but he does it on his command.
He has tried the ki-yie thing on other occasions too. I chalk it up to the terrier mentality "I don't want to and you can't make me" attitude. Once he figures out that I won't give in he stops screaming. LOL

  • JHILL - Sorry to hear of Jack's fall. Wish I could give him some of my DMSO. It works wonders on swelling and bruising. Hope it is just a slight discomfort.

  • SHELLY - I feel so sad for you, your DH and your boys. My condolences to you and your family on both fronts.

  • SHELLY - Was thinking about a piece of black glass that is over at my old cabin...thinking I should get a pic here a learn more. It is the black glass that shows a purple when you shine a really bright light though it.
Is black glass the proper name?

IRENE M - Was trying to come up with a funny line about feet but mind took a walk.

  • AMBER - You said "My mom had this wonderful ’Sunbeam ’ cake mixer and I just found it …..Brought back so many good memories but I also found her meat grinder..so I can keep one…"

Think it may be all or non. Believe the meat grinder is an attachment that needs the power of the mixer motor to run.

This link may have more info.
    http://www.jitterbuzz.com/indmix.html#atts

BTW , IMO Everything has value. Whether high or low value, is the question. lol

ALSO A while back you said your condo owner was taking half of your storage space. Unless he is just letting you use HIS space I do not believe he can take half your space.
Realize that states may have different rules... But When my Mom got her condo the storage area was deeded to the unit as was the parking space and the additional space she purchased. It was a place specific and could not be "taken back".

Another thing. Thought you said the owner like owner of the building?? But aren't condos owned by an association made up of the unit owners??? Aren't you the owner of the condo? or do you rent from an owner of the unit?
Even then if you are renting from someone your storage space should be written into the lease aggreement and should not change.

  • Morning - Been looking up yard grids and it is a bear to find info from the company.

BEADS!/HELEN You did post at 9:12 here.

  • Oh CHAR, did not mean to sound whiny or complaining. It is just part of my life , like the weather. Since I haven't gotten anything really neat at the dump lately and did not have cool Estate Sales to tell about I was just rambling, I guess.

Today I did put the brakes on an attempted escape, however. The girls had one section of fence that had partially come undone from it's post. That is just the sort of area that they ( the little escape artists) seem to locate. Then they will worry the area until it gives in. LOL
Glad I nipped it in the bud with my trusty baling twine. Once they escape at a weak spot, it has to be made ten times as strong when repairs are made.

Have some sort of quadruped in my huge stack of ten foot long bales of hay. Saw it zip away just as I lifted the tarp.

I get a free boot wash in the snow melt lake that is between the little and big barn. I need it too, due to all the mud around the big barn.

And that was my exciting day.

  • SHELLY - I sent you my other email addy . Did you not get it? Thanks for worruining about me. I think of you kind of as the mother hen who keeps all the chicks, here, together.

BEADS!, BBG, HELEN Will did up your email and send the Ph#...if I do not forget. lol

  • Hi everyone - Just popping in to let you all know that I am alive. The Monitor finally went end of Feb. The fist banging had stopped helping so I went the Khrushchev route......banging it with my shoe. One time when I felt particularly agile I kicked it with my foot. LOL

Slowly I unearthed the area on and around the old monitor and determined that if I did not have to lift the monitor...just grasp it and hold it without bending or twisting...I could move it a few feet. That chore took about a week or so but finally got it done. Replaced with an old, but refurbished CRT type 14 inch Acer that one of my trail riders brought me last year. He will take my old one and see if he can fix it's loose connections or whatevers.
However, cleaning and moving the monitors triggered a nasty muscle spasm in neck/ shoulder/ back junction area...so no typing for me. Did read boards a bit but mostly zoned on muscle relaxants rotated heat packs and tried to not trigger a fresh spaz attack.

In desperation I went to the new chiropractor, up here, on Saturday. Do not like to go to new chiros as most are too hard and throw me out rather than help. She may have put a little something out but did help the spasm area. That left me feeling, not only like a limp dish rag, but a limp dish rag that was run over by a truck. lol Those who go to chiropractors may know that feeling well.
Did not wake up till NOON!! on Monday, Ten on Tuesday and today at 7:30, so looks like I am getting back to more normal wake time.

Just yesterday I had a flash of 'kind of normal'. Did not feel arm nerves grab me as much when I was feeding. Walking was a bit better...like more of a normal rhythm.

Oh yeah, during that time my foot dropped (from the nerve issues in the back)causing me to slide on ice and took me down. Kind of slow motion twisted, torked and jammed the joint then landed on knee, and pulled the muscles that go from knee up front of thighs ( quads?). Not wanting to be left out the other leg joined the slipped one and I ended up sort of sitting with legs under me and sideways a bit. Determined that nothing broke and was sore, but functional, so continued feeding and when I got to house lathered them up all with horse medicine (DMSO) which kept swelling almost nonexistent. They are just about back to normal.
It was nice to have and injury act normal. Hurt at first, then hurt a bit more the next day or so, then progress to feeling better each day and heal....unlike nerve injury that just keeps hurting forever.

Anyway ... Just letting you all know that I am OK.

Now playing catch-up on the catch-up stuff that I was already catching-up on previously. Totally clear right?

  • Glass and Pottery people. Doing double duty now. Monitor working for the moment. Speed posting here. Managed to get my Sales Tax form done and paid it and the Business registration fee.

KATIE - Thanks for the Frankoma location. OOOO! k lahoma LOL

JIM D - Have a friend who will fix, or try to fix, for no charge. Am over 6 hours from nearest store plus do not have $$ for new monitor, or even two sticks to rub together. Hardest part is unearthing old one and getting to the cords. I will just keep beating this one as I unearth or just have no computer.

RE: Opalescent glass- Realize I spelled it wrong the other day. Did not think it looked right. Oh well sometimes my brain does that to me.
Did not realize it came in other base colors thought it was only blues. Saw the post about pink opalescent. Will try to read again as first read was all squiggly and very small. lol

FRAN - Hope you feel better soon.

GORDON - Have now seen my first picture of Black Caviar. I thought she was a Black, with a name like that. I see she is a dark bay, unless she is really bleached out. Nice big haunch, deep chest and muscled up the wazoo, more like a colt in the muscling. How old is she?

A second dog attack? Who'd of thunk.

CHAR - I see you got bids. Hope you have a little war tonight.

  • QUICK!!
Before my monitor implodes again. Got home PM Friday. Just before I left the monitor had been shrinking itself more times than not. When I got home it was mostly looking, at best, like a1/2 inch high by 9 inch long tongue depessor and at worse a white link across the midded. A few banging with fist and I got a wiggley image about 4- five inches high and managed to dial up get to the boards and do one message to a Pottery person, then poof. No boards, no checking weather , no email, no solitaire. Do not know why but right now have about 90 percent function so posting quickly and doing what I can.

I do have a back up monitor that a friend brought me but I still have four years of stuff on and around old one plus do not know if I caould even lift a monitor. Sooo... will slowly and methodicly remove 'stuff' and see if I can swap them at some point.

MONITOR JUST WNT AGAIN. A few taps and I can sort of see it.

Hmmm will see if I can copy and paste.

NOPe I couldn't but have it back again

POTTERY KATIE think CHAR has the K&O horse Thought it was you so that is why you got that one email I managed. Wasn't a post but message through board. Sort of read part of what you wrote on Friday after I amnged that message.
CHAR -One in really nice shape is valued at $400 in the second collecting metal horses book by Carolyn Martin. Think you should have mentioned in description original foiul label, the lasso / lariat/ the colored paintion on acents ...scarf/neckerchief, conchoes and leather strips etc. Good luck. I would get it at your price if I had any extra $$$.

Opps screen gone so can not see what I am typing. ahhh can see curos flash will wait and see if screen gets bigger and try to copy and paste. If not guess you li just think that I imploded too. lol

HA! got monitor back and signed in.

LLUDWIG - THANKS! Have copied story to email hope to read fully before monitor goes again.

GLASSIES - Saw piece of Opalessence at Mom's Home's thrift shop in the good section. 45$$ leaf shape about 8 inches long 6- 7 wide 3-4 high.

Got to post quickly before monitor goes poof again.

LOL this has taken about two and a half hours to get this far.

See you all later I hope.

  • HI all. Been out all day on errands with Mom. Think we ticked of most items on the list. I start heading home tomorrow.

Don't faint now. Pottery subject ! Mom is giving me her Frankoma Elephant bookends. Was trying to remember where Frankoma was made. I may google. I always wanted one of the horse sets but I like elephants too.

Char I could look at your K&O horse. Plus, I have a couple of books at home where I could check, if it doesn't look familiar off the top of my head.

JANICE - Interesting about the pottery in water. Thank you fo45r that tidbit. Now to remember it. lol

NANCY - lol and I have squirrels in the trusses.

BOB - roh-roh what was that you said about fixing hole before it rained?

  • AMBER - Can't you just give it a rest? Anyone who finds the board and wants to sign up will do so. If there is a problem with improper posting it will we taken care of by the webmaster.
Can't you see that you are irritating some of the others by going on and on and on with this?
Just leaving the subject, without further comment, apology, etc might be the the least painful for everyone. JMHO

  • MARTY - that "Coincidence" story was so cool.

  • NANCY ,SHELLY - Thanks Glad you enjoyed them.

    A PENNY MEMORY
    http://accessdoorcounty.com/fwf/V-DAY-HEARTS.htm

I was surprised, this morning, when I was awakened by the sound of the town snow plow. Sure enough we were coated in white. We only got about two inches. Hardly warranted the plow gas but I guess they have to do it. It was pretty. Started melting a bit this afternoon. We may get a lot more tomorrow or or Thursday. They have been talking about the possibility for days now.

  • GAYLE - The one with the HUGE windows looking over water... Or the neat little house with the turtle? in a pond? Or neither. Hard to sell a dream house or any dream.

IRENE M - Have not watched yet. I like to guess too.

  • GAYLE - Congratulations on your fast sale. Was this your Dad's place?

  • IRENE M - I watch it but usually miss it on Monday and watch the repeat Thursday night. Our is on at 7 here. What's up with it? Anything special?

  • Calling all dog lovers

Tonight and tomorrow night Westminster Kennel Club Dog show. it is on CNBS and USA channel on cable. 7 or 8 PM.

For those unfamiliar with this type of show the dogs compete by breed in various catagories, From the top of my head it is ... Puppy (may have different age sections), bitch (female), dog (male). the the winner of each of those goes head to head with the other breed winners to get BEST OF BREED. Then each overall BEST OF BREED winner goes into it's respective group to be judged against each breed's official standard, not against each other,as they can have very different shapes of dogs within a group. Not sure which group are tonight If memory serve the groups are Sporting, Non-sporting, Herding, Working, Terrier, Hound and Toy.
Four of the seven groups are tonight then tomorrow the last three groups and BEST IN SHOW from the winner of each group.

I know people often find dogs on a book cover, a knick knack, etched in glass glazed in pottery or in a sculpture. I remember times that people ask what kind of dog is this what do I call it?
Well now is a chance to see lots of different breed and learn to "guess" what is on your item.

  • Here is the link to ebay's "Accepted Payments Policy" http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html

I had to go through page after page to find it. Each time I look for it it gets more hidden.
I broke out some particulars below and added some comments and opinions of my own.

When you read the whole list of terms I think you will see that no where does it say that a seller can not accept other payments. Everything says the seller can not ASK or SAY they will take other payments. Nothing says they can not accept them or that buyers can not pay with other methods..
I think if they did that that would put ebay in a whole different catagory and would then not just be a "venue". Something to do with the auction aspect I believe, if memory serves.

    ebay:
"Payment methods not allowed on eBay:

For most categories, sellers can't ask buyers to: "

ME: Starting with this. How many new sellers ( and some old ones) just see the "not allowed" in the above and do not see the "can't ask" ?

    ebay:
"Our Accepted Payments policy helps ensure that buyers and sellers on eBay are offered safe, convenient payment options. "

ME: BULL! It is to ensure that ebay gets every single possible piece of YOUR hard earned dollars.

    ebay:
............"Sellers need to say in their listing specifically which payment methods they accept and only offer payment methods approved by eBay. ......." ...............

ME: I believe, from reading ebays convoluted rules and terms, those payment methods approved by ebay only refers to what you can SAY, NOT HOW you can be paid.

    ebay:
"Sellers aren't allowed to make statements like:

    “Contact us for payment information.”
“Contact us for other payment methods.”
“Contact us for your preferred payment method.”
“Buyers may request to pay by check or money order.” "..............

ME: All they are saying is you can not state, in plain English, that you WILL take other forms of payments.
I saw an auction where one put it well but was still in accordance with ebay's (marginally legal IMO). It was something like 'if you are having problems paying with paypal please contact me.'

    ebay:
................"There is only one exception: "Sellers who offer payment upon pickup may include the following statement in their listings: “Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup.” "................

ME: This one is self explainatory.

    Hmmm
Just a thought Soooo...Maybe if one marked ALL sales for pickup one could say they will take MO, cash etc. LOL
Personally I pretty much stopped buying when they made it harder to pay with M.O or check. I ran into sellers who did not have a clue they could take anything BUT paypal...needless to say and they did not get my money. It then just got too frustrating to keep trying then search continued to deteriorate, too.

  • CHAR - You can actually SAY, IN your EBAY descript., that take you cash (or whatever) WHEN IT IS A PICK-UP .
I just was re-reading those terms the other day. You are allowed take any form of payment you want to take, in other sales, .........you just can not SAY exactly that in your description.
In other words the buy has to ask if you will. Unfortunately many new sellers are bubbleheads and do not KNOW they can do that.

Yeah, I have had issues with other generics in the past too many hardeners or fillers so they do not dssolve, weird ingredients from India that I can not ID and on and on.

Don't over do. Your two errands seem like a LOT to do to me for one who says they are resting and not doing anything today. lol

SHELLY - Thanks for the link. I have a few bookend books. If you had asked I could have looked it up for you, if it were there, but I see you have a lot of the history anyway.

  • Morning - just a fast peak. much to do. gut better today. now wondering if issue is new generic brand of muscle relaxants, though the store brand ( supposedly GF) spaghetti sauce is still in the running as is the white rice pasta. Oh well, I will take feeling better any way it comes. Now need to make up for being a slackard the last two days.

SHELLY - Tried to find your bookends, just to see what they were, and they are not in completed.
The most recent completed is the tenth. today is the 13th. Is ebay a bit slow right now in up-dating?

  • Oh my Jill Kinmont's accident was in 1955. She was 75.

  • NANCY - Jill was the skier who became a quadriplegic, right? Lemonade from lemons is right. Read the book, saw the movie. Early 70's, late 60's? Guess I will have to go google.

  • KATIE - with rapt attention. You must be telling them something veerrry interesting ... or you have some really good treat in your hand.

Oh, before I forget again and I have forgotten often.... What was the cocker one looking at in that pic a few days or a week or so ago. You called it 'so close and yet so far' or something....he/she was on a bed looking at a plastic bin.
Oh I am so bad, I usually remember animal names and genders

  • KATIE - Not only clean ( bet it usually is) but it is EMPTY! Can you say minimalist?
Do we get a before picture too?

I am tempted to post some of my before pics of kitchen ......... only tempted. LOL

  • ALLIE, AMBER, ANYONE - Here are a couple of sites that you may or may not know about. One seems to me a Meissen marks site with different years of use. Second one has many marks showing various Meissen knockoffs, crossed arrow etc.. ALLIE, that CD or DC or whatever seems very familiar...like I have seen it on one if the marks sites... did not see it here though in my cursory look.

    Meissen Marks

  • Morning - Wind is blowing at high 20's mph, wind chill is minus 2 and falling, temp is 16 and falling to single digits. We have hardly been below freezing for days and days and days. OH..... and it is snowing. We desperately need snow cover so hope we get enough to do some good.

SHELLY Neat frog. Might it be designed to mount on another piece? The thre indents on the bottom almost look like they could sit on something elevated. Don't look quite the norm for fired pieces. Can't place why I think that.

  • OMG! INCREDIBLE MOON RISE!!

If it hasn't yet come up where ever you are try to take a look. HUGE Orange -Yellow Has to be one of top ten moon rises of my life.

Saw it at about 5:30 Central time here. It was just over the horizon at that time. Tried to take picture but think I was too shakey.

  • AMBER - Really do not have that much energy, just stubborn perseverance. Am trying to organize that which has not been touch for four + years. Do for 4 minutes then sit or lie down, then 5 more minutes etc. When at high pain relief time maybe I can manage 10 -15 minutes at a time.
I do not have ponies! (pet peeve when people cal them ponies) They are a small horse breed and primarily and adult riding horse though children do ride them .

  • Morning

Welcome CXGIRL. Until I saw you being called CX I had read your ID as EXgirl. Maybe need I stronger glasses. LOL

  • GORDON - Thank you for the stills. Nice shot of the QA lace and it even shows the little drop of "blood" in the center. I have both QAL and yarrow here so spend time explaining the differences to my trail riders. I try to teach them about the nature things we see as well as riding. So many these days have never had rural experiences.

IRENE M - Saw a Snowy Owl once. Back in the 70's northeastern Wisconsin. It must have been after something as it almost hit my windshield as it swooped up just in time. It was HUGE!
Used to see a pair of Barred Owls regularly( they have dark eyes...way cool), a Great Horned a couple of times and another type once but do not remember what kind. Have seen none for a very long time now, though I did hear one hoot, just a few nights ago.

  • Hi everyone.

I have been asked about on Book, Pottery and Glass boards so I will do a sort of blanket post.
Got back from Illinois the week after NY. Was tired and kept falling asleep. That sometimes happens after an adjustment. The aligning process hits what I call my "sleepy nerve". One night I fell asleep in the computer chair for about 7 hours. Kept sort of waking up but could not wake up enough to go to bed.

I have been reading the boards between working in kitchen to "unearth" and gaining some headway there, but problems when I went to post. Upped my tramadol so as to try to "do more" which has it's own issues. Had a lot of computer "not responding" Took so much time to get it to respond I would be zoned out again.
Guess today the planets are aligned or something. Woke to frozen computer, restarted, managed to type a post which I have not yet lost, connection is holding, too, so this should work.

Enjoying the first of the month top sales on BOOK board. maybe POTTERY and GLASS will do the same. Love to see what is selling.

SHELLY , CLEM(Paula), DIANE, And all (because I probably forgot some) who express concern about me. It is nice to be thought of. Need to have a tech do a specific thing to my computer to help stop the freezing/not responding thing but do not have money for that now.
My car is not fixable, frame wise, either, so will have to find something to haul trailer with. New used late 1990's suburban with 100,000 miles are about $5000-$6000. Can't afford much more is that.
Car is great mechanically, if you don't count unscrewing the battery terminal every time I stop so it won't discharge, and the now no A/C, and then there is a corner of the frame missing that holds the gas tank ( 340 pounds when full). At least they finally found the gas leak (that I have had them look for for 4 months), so that was another almost $400 on a car that I can't use to haul with.

Anyway life goes on. Have not had to be plowed all winter, saving somewhat on heating propane since it is not as continually cold as normal, have managed to keep toes from frostbite this year thanks in large part to heated floor mat at desk. Not here much but when I fall asleep it doesn't take long to affect those compromised toes again. We have been down to 3 degrees. We do need snow though as we are very dry. Most on ground at one time is only 2-3 inches.

So...Teddy and I are OK. Would love to teach him a new trick this winter if I can think of a good one. He has made huge strides in his stairs issues. He will now stop part way up or down and not freak out. He does this on my direction but is now sometimes doing it on his own.

APOLLO update I see many have asked how he is doing but Casino may have missed those queries.

I talked to Charlie around the holidays. He said Apollo was doing well. He is on the same diet that Cheri worked out for him. I think he was 5 years old last August. It couldn't be 6 years could it?

JULIE - Wow! on you Lithgow pitcher. It was great to see it jump at the end. Tried to post that night too, and then the computer froze for the umpteenth time. LOL

LLUDWIG - Keep those quizzes and stories coming. Enjoy them all. Good thing you figured out about the book sale before you went.

FURTIMA - Are you going to show us some of your new paintings? Hey, did you happen to "CSI NY" That dealt with counterfeit drugs, pill hardeners, mag, stearate? Thought of your funny batch and the ones I have had that are funny. Interesting to see it highlighted in a show as most people have no clue that there can be any problems with their RX's or OTC drugs.

GORDON - Would be nice if you put some still shots up once and a while. I did see the van and the rock. Scary about them falling/jumping down the hill into the water and the Mastiff. Dealt with a HUGE St. Bernard and my Penny (before Teddy) once. No one hurt but it could have been bad.

GAIL - Were you one who got a horribly packed bowl set that was smashed? I felt so bad for you. Some one else got one about the same time from same seller, I think. Hate the loss of the irreplaceable antique items.

I used to collect metal horse bookends. Set came box with a few crumpled wads of news paper and one was just about folded in half from being slammed around in box. Vintage too. Never saw another just like them.

BOB - Congratulations on your upcoming retirement.

CASINO - Good thoughts for Pat. About Jake's "60 Minute" interview. I taped it. My sister taped it, as a back up, but she wiped hers out because she forgot I needed it. I picked up my tape to go watch and MY tape vanished between the upstairs and downstairs VCRs. UGH.
It has to be here somewhere....but where. I did see the previews that were on in the morning. He looked great.

Well folks, this is way too much sitting and typing for me. I'll be reading.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope everyone had a great day.

On computer at Mom's retierment home. Arrived safe and sound last night.
Picked up Mom and we did grocery shopping. Car ran well, no real traffic my direction but was heavy going north to GB, for the Packers/ Bear game. Was up at 5 yesterday so slept late this morning. Heading to bed again soon.

Teddy has been a hit in his reindeer dog outfit.

  • Hi all I'm still alive. Black cloud still here and I have just still been in a funk. Now I have a drain on my battery and have to disconnect one terminal, if I am going to leave it more than about an hour. Spent ten ish $$ on a handy little ratcheting wrench and can undo it without light. Have a back up socket wrench but need light for that.
Then the mower would not start so I could put it in winter spot, so I tarped it where it sits. My skidster was parked by one of the hay guys and he did not park it back far enough ( for my safety margin from the plow) an IT won't start so can't move it either! It has new battery too. UGH! or maybe I should say Bah Humbug. lol.

Off to Mom's tomorrow in Illinois a I coordinated doctor appointment with the holiday.

    ANYWAY

Hope every one has a great Christmas and Happy New Year and if you do not do Christmas hope you have a great holiday time.

Mom's birthday is also next week. She will be 96 ion the 27th.

  • Got two breakers changed in the tack room box. Plugged tank heater into one of them .It worked for THREE hours! So should be fine. It popped in less than an hour to less than five minutes previously. Then I changed cord to the original outlet and will check in the morning. if it is still on then that problem is solved.

Car is a different story. Tranny and rear end are OK, but clutch or pump in AC compressor is going. Need to bypass it (their words but means disconnect the AC) and put in another pulley so serpentine belt will continue to work. If it were to seize up it would tear my belt out and maybe wreck the engine.
Also have two oil lines leaking. If these are the two that were replaced fairly recently then I will talk to the other mechanic. Battery just had a stripped terminal so it and starter are A-OK.
Reciever is removed from car so do not have to worry about it catching on anything. Next is to call metal fabricating place to see if is possible, and how much it would be, to fix the frame so I could haul again.

Dan you could try googling that email addy. Sometimes they are tied in to another site which has the name of person. Take it you got the one from through here.

  • DAN - Found the posts. They were on my archived ebay Pottery board. E-mailed to you through email system on this site. Sent the whole day of 16th. Not very many.

    Correct GORDON

  • Think old ebay boards went down about 10/14. This board started in early Aug. / late July

Dan - Are you saying you can not express your own opinion? re: work? If so that sucks.
Might whistle blower law apply. Seems there were some mis-management issues that were ignored. You expressed frustration because no one would listen. Wouldn't that be part of what applies with Whistle blower issues?

Also, Hit "LOAD MORE" at bottom of page (as many times as it takes) until you get back to the boards inception and you can see all posts that have been written in date order. You can save as a complete web page or copy and paste in blank email or word or notepad etc.

GORDON - The one mare came from Wales ... as in she was imported to North America from Wales ... as opposed to the breed is from Wales.

AMBER, CHAR - Some said it already about this is not a private board . Anyone can read it.

  • Morning everyone
Woke early again but manage to get back to sleep this time. have not hear from car shop yet.

AMBER - SHETLANDS?? Nasty little things. Gag, choke, NO WAY. Actually, Shetlands were originally bred well but many now are known for bad habbits and actions.

Mine are Icelandics. Far cry from any horse anyones knows unless they know the Icelandic. The only naturally five gaited breed of horse in the world they are as stong as a draft horse. An adult riding horse not "just a kids pony', size average 13.2, They are bred for a good temperament, the social stallions usually can live together and with geldings. Their gestation is longer than other horses, they are slow maturing with a lower metabolism and they are longer lived.
They are not full grown until about ten years old and do not even come into their prime till about 12 yrs and are there to their late teens or early twenties. They do not break down like other breeds and are generally still healthy and rideable till they die. My oldest is 35 and still being ridden and doing lessons. She can still carry normaI weight but I keep her riders lighter now and limit how often she is used and she is very happy and healthy.

Most horses are full grown by 7, hit prime at about 8yrs to about 13-14yrs and then start the aging decline.

  • Hi All. Missed a bunch, I am sure, and can't remember who said what right now except maybe for a couple.

    Lock out story.
My house locks were the kind that you can open even when they are locked. More than once I have gone on porch and locked myself out. Not too bad when it is not winter and I have shoes one but did it one time when we had about 8-10 inches of snow and I was in my sock feet, having just gone on porch to let dog out or just o check the air temp or something.
I never used to lock my back door so walked in snow, in socks, around to back door and got in.
Now days anyone trying to get in that door would probably kill themselves and I have since gotten a different lock. You can not turn the handle to open the door unless it is unlocked.

SHELLY - Cabana boy. Now that would be nice. That would be massage instead of masochistic work right? lol Not I really. I love my work on the farm. Just wish I could DO it and not have to get help.
He came today and unloaded the 25 bags of feed. Managed to get all but 6 in racoon proof areas. Moved a few awkward things that needed to shifted before the snow flies, got my stuck feed trough out of the the deep almost now unfrozen mud unstuck. We had had so much rain the mud which had trapped the base looked like lava which had hardened.

DAN - Glad your meeting went well, as it seems from your post. I worked my winter job for 30 years. Loved it, usually, but the brother of my direct boss had a temper and he would yell at you for no reason and do it in front of other employees.

There were a few times in the later years where I would tell the sister. That I was only staying for her. I loved my job and the OT, but there were times when I would have just walked if I hadn't been loyal and need the pay check.

The tension would be awful sometimes. I could walk in the store on off days and know immediately if the brother was in the building or not. We were all good self starting workers but he would flare out of the blue. His DW and DS always said he was working on it but that really didn't help.

He was always putting out articles for us managers on how to be a better manager and how to communicate but I do not think he read them. One time he yelled at me and I yelled back. Do not believe he did that again, to me.
He had asked me to do some project which I knew nothing about and he would not answer questions......just said figure it out. Then when I did not do it the way he would have done it he yelled. LOL Almost like he wanted people to fail so he could yell.

  • SHELLY - I can't see most videos so I don't usually even try. I am on dial up.. AH a rat. Well, the crows need to eat too.

  • Morning

DAN - I did notice you absence but I have been rather absent myself. Sorry about your plumbing problems. Had a few problems my self but only one involves water.

GORDON - what critter did you save?

  • Discovered that two or three of some lazy susan dishes have gotten broken. They were a neat pink and gray. Don Jay California. Maybe they can have life again as a mosaic someday.

AMBER - Thanks but really no big deal. Seems some people flare up quickly for no tangible reason.

About "sad" BB. Just a few poorly chosen words buy a few people. IMO The way to counter that is to make good posts, ignore the rest and not keep going on.

  • Hi everyone,

Last load of hay is in and just came in to warm up a bit. Have one big bale (about 800 pounds) that I am taking apart in sections, to put in the little barn. Radar shows a line of moisture coming in. Off to cover it if I can not get it in now.

KATIE - It was neat to look up Fulling Mill. Hope you give a blow by blow of the estate sale.

Very nicely written info on Fulling Mills

  • Morning / Afternoon Still alive here.

  • Shelly - Gluten Intolerance can be from being Celiac which is a genetic inability to digest gluten or it can be acquired due to an immune system issue where your body begins to treat gluten as a foreign invader.
People can have different reactions. Some with Celiac may have no physical indication they have a problem but if left undetected Celiacs tend have a higher incident of colon cancer, due to the damage in the gut. Some Celiacs are sick for years and doctors do not know why. The US is far behind other places in IDing Celiac and Gluten Intolerance. The only "treatment" is to avoid ALL gluten.
Gluten is hidden in a lot of things. Lots of reading labels and learning what is safe. More things are being made with out gluten which is good. Many things are naturally gluten free but if they are carried in the same truck that carried gluten product then you get cross contamination. Example - Oatmeal is usually OK but if the oats for the oatmeal were hauled in a truck that hauled wheat then you have cross contamination and those oats are no longer safely edible for one with gluten intolerance
Mine is intolerance due to stress from accident which stressed my adrenal system which then messed up my immune system which messed up my gut and led to the gluten intolerance.
To put it as delicately as possible. A very mild reaction would be like eating too many prunes. Worse reaction is like too many prunes and then some, plus feeling like a cement mixer is running around in your whole gut with knives poking you from inside out. That along with rumbley gas which escapes both top and bottom exits of your whole stomach / gut system, pressure through out the body caused by internal inflammation (also caused by the gluten reaction) and then throw a few exploding grenades in for good measure and that should give a general idea of a bad reaction. The reaction can last from several days to a week or so. It depends on how much and how long the exposure is to the gluten.
I have read that some people are so sensitive that they can not even walk past a bakery where flour particles may be floating in the air. For them just breathing them in can cause a reaction.

  • Hi all,
Got back lateish on T Day. Unloaded only what had to come in then, fed the kids. Had invite to sister's house....Take my own food mostly when I got out ....made some GF mash, potatoes, took a thing of yougurt, their turkey was GF so had some and some home grown squash.
Mmmm good BUT I got glutened. Turkey must have had gluten from stuffing( which was cooked IN the turkey) I am usually more careful but that one is a new one on me. I only had turkey from the way outside and used fresh knife on fresh area.
First real turkey I have had in two years. Still have a bit of take home slices which I think I will freeze. Forgot how miserable it is to be badly glutened.

Trying To read and catch up. I am sort of wiped out and just laying low. Last night went to bed about 8PM.

Gordon, please remember to send my uTube advertising royalty if you do the Pi-Che-Ams recipe.

  • NANCY - Major bummer on your theft. Sorry.

Chugging along See Glass for some info.

  • HI AND BYE

Heading for Illinois today. Yesterday the new muscle got Big lean-to roof fixed, two areas of fence done up in a very good 'temporary for winter' repair, secured the gate between the girls and the hay stash in the big barn and moved hay.
Knew what I wanted and ran with it, cleaned up and put things back Double the price and worth it so far. Did not need 'baby sitting' either.

Have a nice Thanksgiving If I don't see you all before that. I will get home either late Wednesday or early Thursday. Can't eat TG food anywhere anyway.

Wish Teddy and me luck in the little pet show at the 'home' on Tuesday. He will do his two new tricks for the big crowd.

  • So tired last night was in bed before nine. never heard phone ring at 915 and 920.Showed on missed call.

MIM - Hope you feel better fast.

GORDON. I can not see videos on my dial up. Do you have still pictures of dog rash? That is what I gather you are talking about.

yes ..shampoo can cause reation. Do not like prednisone cortisone anything. (One magic use for horse but VERY short term)You can use benedry for itching and try rinsing dog vwery well in case there is residue from soap.

Asthma can be signs of allergy I beleive. you can google.

  • Hi Gordon. Now that would be funny. the tail on the head. Reconfigure the horses. Put them in different areas and in different groups. Right now I have 16 horses in 5 different areas. By tomorrow night they must all be in their winter places which are the most secure and safest from hunter's bullets. My barns have been shot through three times and have lost the one horse.
There will be only four areas, one of which has the lean-to which got fixed today.

    It's always morning somewhere!

Sorry that I left you in the dark yesterday. I will be off to Illinois doctor again on Sat. or Sun.Much to do before that and before first snow covers up everything. Hunting starts Saturday and need to reconfigure horses. I have a horse killed one season so do utmost to keep them and safest areas.
Have found a new "muscle". Hope he will work out for the things I can not do. Much more expensive but if he works fast and carefully it may be worth it. Comes today to fix small area on roof of lean-to.

Third below freezing temps last night. We got to 27. May have to hook up tank heaters before I go. Hate to do it too soon ans they add about $50 a month to electric bill.

  • Sorry, the sun is on vacation.

Day breaks a bit gray, temps to be above normal maybe close to 50 again.

Much to do, much to do.

GORDON - just like a man to not follow directions the first time. LOL I was getting confused just reading your post about soup, fruit mix and spam........huh???

Read just parts of PB last night in brain stupor.

RE: Kids running hither and thither. My Mom used to tie a cow bell to the back of my overalls when I was 2-3. She said is was the only place that I could not get it undone. I still have that bell.

  • Well I messed that up Tought I missed part of post in copying so deleted it then deleted the other, Had not missed anypart so just put them together into one big one. LOLToo Tired. Off to bed

MARSON - I put Strawberry Jam in my Greek yogurt. I usually mix half of the 35+ ounce container at a time. I use the 2% Fage which I bring from Green Bay for $5.50 per 35+ ounces. Up here the 17+ ounce container is $6.39 or more. I go through a bit less than two containers a week.

Speaking of which...I need to eat something then go collapse.

Had three big tablespoons of Greek yogurt, took tramadol and muscle relaxant, piddled Teddy, put heat pack away and now having a PBC ( peanut butter cup).

CHOCOLATE - I had an esophageal spasm years ago after car accident # two where the idiot broadsided me and pinched a nerve. Chocolate is acidic, and it began to bother me ( along with strawberries and tomato sauce) Did not have Chocolate for over five months! That was hard.

GORDON - Have another almost 'one pot' but is is from and EX BF. Consider the source when I post it. LOL

Can you make rice or pasta in another pan?

  • GORDON - Pi-Che-Ams another one pan meal brought to you from Wellie, an old Girl Scout.

    Pi-Che-Ams

    Ingredients:
    Spam
    Sliced Canned Pineapple
Cheddar Cheese (suppose you could use another kind of cheese but I have only made them with Cheddar)

    Prep:
Slice Spam ( I do about 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch thick)
    Cut Pineapple in half
    Slice Cheddar

    Cook:
Put slices of Spam in pan and warm to just brown ( more or less according to your taste
Turn slices of spam over and add the sliced Pineapple using two of the 'half-slices' Pineapple, per slice of Spam with the open sides toward each other sort of nested together. (the end of one half pointed into the other's inside curve, that is where a visual aid would help.....like this, see my fingers?)
Put cheese on top of Pineapple and put lid on pan.

By the time the Spam is browned / warmed on the second side the cheese should be melted.

    Enjoy!

  • MIM - Correct it is not the same dog that I have now. The blond dog is Penny who I lost in 2005, Teddy who I have now, is avatar on Glass, he is grey. The Penny avatar has a lot of theoriginal pic cut off. Put up the whole one to show the braid in her hair and her shirt.

This is the avatar I wanted to put on Book board, but can not get this one to load, so you get first peek. http://i44.tinypic.com/34eahbq.jpg I had fun making it. Turned the "mysteryman" ( real name for the blank avatar) into "smiley avatar. LOL

Mom is good but her eyes are worse and worse. Horses don't go into shelter much no matter what the weather. I live mainly on Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt. Don't have to think, it is fast and does not take energy and small motor skills, that I don't have, for standing and prepping stuff.

Arby's roast beef is GF and got just meat once. Had it on my own GF bagel. Did not have the same taste but was OK.
Don't worry about anything else. As to sugar and fat. don't do sugar unless it is in something and fat is good for you. Your brain needs it and you feel satisfied after eating instead of those hollow fake food calories. Low fat stuff is really bad IMO

I went over two year without french fries. If I catch them at local restaurnt when the grease has just been changed I will do fries without fear of cross contamination. Did that in September and they were so good. The same at the one Arby's I go to. Just had Potato Cakes(GF) for first ime in over a year. They had just change their grease and the fryer was still warming up when I called. Mmmmm good there too.

Do you HAVE to have NO sodium? or NO fat? or is it suggested. Have you tried that lite salt that is made with Potassium I think instead of sodium?

Can you put something like celery seed into your o/v dressing. And if you can have oil for that, why not other fat? like Mayo and ketchup mixed for a French type?

AMBER- Think there are about 20 things the same as MSG but just have different name. I will try to find the list.

NANCY - Have a thing my friend sent me. Will find and post as other may get a kick out of it.

GORDON - LOL you sure? Working on Pi-Che-Am recipe.

  • Gordon - Think William was either not born or just barely born during Falklands War in 1982. Believe it was Andrew or the other brother of Charles whose name escapes me right now. Oh Edward maybe. No time to look up.

Keep falling asleep before giving next recipe. I actually got ingredients for it myself, just yesterday,,,, then was too tired to cook. Maybe will have visual aids... then again maybe not. lol

Listening to my Mr. Fix-it on radio. Learn lots from him. He is on the net too. One can hear old shows. I can even get them on dial up with out too much trouble so... If i don't make it up by 6 on Saturday I don't miss out anymore. Put my wood floor down after getting advice from him on the radio.

Have a rider coming today. Hope the weather holds or their trip will be for nothing.

NANCY - Love the Cahoots...I will send that to a friend or two. Thanks.

  • JEANNE - Here it the whole picture of Penny, that my avatar comes from. Can't believe I am using that avatar word so blithely. I barely know what an avatar is. Don't know what is wrong with the word "icon" .
    http://accessdoorcounty.com/fwf/PenTie225.jpg
It was one of pics for the Penny calendar. The tie-died shirt was a gift from SKIPADOODLE, I then braided a little of her hair. This was her hippy, tie-die photo. LOL

Hope you find a new hairy / furry friend soon.

  • Been meaning to ask if anyone has a secret site for Stangl? I have an Amber Glo bowl that I can find nowhere. It is huge 14 or 16 inches across. Salad bowl? it is on consignment at a shop so no picture but I am thinking of pulling it out of there.

The only one similar I can find info on (this one ---SB12 Salad Serving Bowl 12 1/8---at replacements, is at least 2 inches smaller than mine. They list one at 10 inches too. Both are called salad serving bowl
This is a pic from Replacements site http://images.replacements.com/images/images5/china/S/stangl_amber_glo_large_salad_serving_bowl_P0000098345S0007T2.jpg

  • JEANNE - Make that .... you can see Teddy on the Glass board.

  • JEANNENL - That was my sweet Penny. A shelter dog stray . Got her in July 1990 and lost her 4-04-05. Sixteen inches tall, about 20 pounds at her prime, very lithe and a soft flexible body and loose muscling.
Best guess is some Cocker ( from her awesome eyelashes), Lhasa ( from her coat and ears) and maybe some poodle ( some of her posturing was poodle like like crossing her front paws). However I saw a red/wheat Tibetan Terrier once and it was very much like Penny so......who knows?
Not sure where she got her smile. Everyone always said she was such a happy dog. She was an ebay bookboard mascot for several years.

Now have Teddy who I call my "God knows dog" Also a shelter stray. You can see his picture on Pottery board as my avatar there.
He is thirteen inches tall and about 20 pounds. Best guess there is definitely parts of Terrier, Poodle and something else??? He has that tight, hard muscled Terrier body, the hunt gene, is natural mouser and also has doggie ADD, at times. He has the bone structure in his face of the poodle, their natural agility and does many tricks.
He is learning to smile too, as he is relaxing more and more, as time goes on.

NANCY - lost sippy cup is where I left off at the hoarder episode yesterday. lol

SUSAN - Bummer on the extra driving. Hope they don't waste your trip again.
Maybe they need lessons from Mayo in how to run efficiently. Friend gets her check-ups there. Gets in the night before to motel ( 10 hour drive from her home) early blood work 6 AM ish, what ever else is needed in way of testing...scans, oscopies etc, eat lunch, meet with all doctors involved all at one time in afternoon Poof, all done and start driving home that day.

GORDON - PI-CHE-AMS will come later today.

  • GORDON - I promised you two one pot meals. One now one another time

I call it, and learned it as, Girl Scout Stew. Think I will rename it Walkabout Stew for you or maybe Driveabout Stew would be more fitting.

    Ingredients:

    Ground beef
Campbell's Condensed Vegetarian Vegetable soup ( Alphabet soup)

Brown the meat (breaking it up as you brown) and drain
Dump in the soup in it's condensed form.

I used to do a family size can of soup to about pound of meat. Think family size is about 28 ounces...three times the normal can size which I think is 10 ounces (U.S.) Are you on Metric?

Adjust to more or less meat or soup depending on your taste. It is self seasoned and re-heatable. Used to sometimes make baking powder biscuits to have with it. Easy one from Bisquick

  • Hi all,

Having a big problem with the weather up here. Someone BLEACHED the rain!!

    Wind is really kicking too.

SHELLY - from a couple of days ago.
Mom lives on here own in an apartment at a retirement home in Illinois. She come up here to her summer house for a couple of months. She does not drive anymore so I take her to do errands and when I am in Illinois for doctor we do saved errands down there too.
As to her living with me. ha ha ha. I would gladly have her live with me if she wanted to but she doesn't want to live with anyone. She likes living on her own, doing her own cooking and what she wants to do. She and I are the sort who can be alone with being lonely most of the time. We can get our moments though. My sisters are more needy when it come to being alone.
At the home she is set for life. If needed they have all different levels of living. She hopes to never, ever have to go to assisted living, let alone the nursing or Alzheimer's wings.

When I say I am going to Mom's to put a tape in it is in her summer house. I do not have a dish and can not get TV on a constant basis, so I tape at her house, just down the road from me.

Did too much Monday Paid for it yesterday, Still much to do. rain again today. Trying not to stress over still needing more hay (it is available but it is a matter of getting it here), and much pre-winter stuff to do.
Got two treasures at dump Monday to use to temp fix fence. A 16 foot wood ladder makes a wonderful barricade. Coolest is a partial roll of 6 foot high welded wire fence. Was lucky that I had help loading and unloading or may not have been able to get it.

  • AMBER - Can you please give us the attribution for the article? can you post the URL where you found it?

  • Hey...
Tired, cold, wet feet toe warmers seemed to have stopped working a few hours early. ugh. AND it it too darn dark too early

Got one tank totally bleached cleanned. One more to go tomorrow. It got too cold too early and strong winds to do the other. Second heater is almost vinegar delimed in the house. Got one more load of wash done and dried before hands and arms gave out.

Great neice and nephew got to ride. The little one (6) tolted for the first time.
Must have been much windier that even I thought. Their Dad, when he came to pick them up said there was a 'thousand footer' and a smaller boat (maybe 400 feet or so ) in the lee of the Island up in Washington Harbor.
Now for you land lubbers that is a 1000+ foot ore boat that hauls the tachinite pellets (from iron ore) from Duluth down to Gary steel mills. By the time I had a chance to go look the big one was under way. The little one was still waiting out the wind a bit.

Five deer in Mom's garden at dusk and surpisingly got pics. Thought it might be too dark. Still had camera in hand when I went in the house so I took a pic of my Parrot vase that lives at Mom's for now. It is from the 40's, she won it at a bridge game and does not like it. I think it is very neat so she gave it to me a long time ago. Would love to share that pic with you sometime.

  • Not much time to read or post. Nice to see that MYRA was here and that REEN is posting. Have not seen CHRIS. Has CATHYDID been here? Have seen posts to me from SHELLY and NANCY. Maybe both here and Glass.

Taking advantage of above average temps (about 48-50F) to try to get things mostly 'done up' before it is too cold, or the snow comes and covers everything up. Hate this can't do stuff all day like I should be able to do.
Need to clean water tanks, install tank heaters, check cords or plan to get new ones (expensive 12 gauge outdoor cold proof ones), shift stuff in little barn, take apart other stuff to get the parts I do want so that the parts I don't want can go back to the dump. Big one is to try to figure an additional raccoon proof storage 'something' for feed in big barn.
The dump giveth and the dump taketh away. yesterday the dump "giveth". I got a large piece of sheet metal that I may be able to make into some sort of lid for one of my old water tanks is sound enough I can maybe fit that that piece of metal to it.

  • Just in to warm up for a minute then back out to the barn.

I got home Wednesday night from Illinois doctor. Friday morning I was alerted to the following.

Early yesterday morning a friend called and said my neighbors had had a fire in the night. It is a resort that is over 100 years old located about 800 feet down the hill from me. Everyone got out safely but three floors were involved.
Flames were coming out of the attic window when the chief got there a little after 4:30AM. He lives just a stones throw from the resort. They brought more firefighters in from the mainland in addition to our large volunteer crew, according to the radio. I do not know if they ran a special boat or if they came on the first one to relive our crew.
Our VFD department had, just a few months ago, bought their first ladder truck. That truck was the only reason they got the fire under control so quickly. Within 30 seconds, according to the chief's interview on the radio, they were able to drop 400 gallons of water in through the blown attic window from that truck.
Also, few years ago a large reservoir (about swimming pool size) was dug 'up town' to hold emergency fire water. Here the pumpers go either to that reservoir or to the lake to pump fire fighting water.

Found this article, about the fire, online today
